Inserting Holes: V19 vs V15 ...
Read 6955 times

Ijust tried inserting Holes with the Hole command.  The operation seems completely permanent -- and part of the 3D object.  Can someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't v15 allow me to move the hole once placed?  I am missing that.  Please assist.

Just Confirmed:  in V15 you can move the hole when you move the point used to create it.  This is NOT possible in v19!  What gives?

If you have the Part Tree on... you can move the point that was used to create the hole, and the hole will follow.

If you don't want the Part Tree on... you can use the Facet Editor to move the hole.

Not sure how to turn Part Tree on.  Went to Selection Pallet, clicked Options, then checked "Show Part Tree in Depth".  No change -- still cannot move hole with point.

There are only 2 instances of "Part Tree" in the Help file -- no information there on how to turn it on or off.

Can do this easily in v15.  Please assist with v19.

Go to "Options / ACIS…". Turn on "Create Editing History (Part Tree)". After it is on, any Holes you create should be moveable via the Point object.

Part Tree must be ON before inserting the holes. To turn it ON/OFF, go to Options>ACIS and check/uncheck "Create Editing History (Part Tree)."

To the OP, there seems to be somewhat of an aversion (from the gurus) to the use of the Parts Tree - not sure why.

My use of TC is mechanical 3D. I've used Parts Tree consistently since it was available - in fact; if it weren't there, I'd probably look for another program. Once one takes the time to learn the capabilities (and limitations) of this function, it is very productive.

BTW... what's with this 11 secs stuff - private joke...?

I agree... if it were not for the Part Tree as well as the Drafting Palette... I too would look for another program.

I've heard that TC 20 will offer non-Boolean logic so you'll be able to prove negatives.  But if you don't have it, you'll never know for sure what you'd do if you didn't have it.

Curious here... what exactly was the informative content of this post... ?

I'm amused by "if things weren't as they are, they'd be different".    Don't you approve of humour?

Ahh... sounds like the humor of a man who got stuck with the ugly sister, because he didn't kiss the pretty one first.

Not knowing is a b*tch...  ;D

That's a long way from anywhere, Greg.  Divination from whimsy's a new one on me, though.

My point was that I've used more than my share of CAD programs over the years... therefore I know what I need out of a CAD program. I can therefore say that if TC didn't have or do such and such... I would look elsewhere. No divination.... no guessing... it's called experience... a term that seems to be eluding you.... much like the pretty sister (hence the comparison).

That's an attempted insult that's as inaccurate as can be.  You've chosen to be offended by something that isn't there.  Let's step away from the edge, what do you say?

Murray,

That's not exactly what I posted...

As Greg, I use (have used) other CAD programs. My day job company uses Solidworks - in the past I've had ProE available. For my off-hours use, I find TC (particularly V19 x64) to work well for me. And I know what I need in a CAD program.

You may call your comment humor - others might call it being a smart***.

OK, Murray,

You win... I can't possibly be as sophomoric as you.

For me, no more in this thread - I'll keep my comments to the discussion of TC.

Larry, to begin with, I was amused by the metaphysical redundancy of Greg's and Torfinn's posts.   I don't feel at all answerable to a blow-in would-be school marm who gets in, takes me to task for deviating off topic, declares that I'm a smartass, calls me adolescent and then makes some comment like "I'm not going to do this anymore", as if that established the high moral ground.   Wanna do it again?
