Grid Shifts

I know this is going to be very simple, but I cannot determine the reason my grid shifts based on the object I select. I've looked through the Forum and googled without locating the reason/solution. I'm drawing walls in 2D on the same layer and my grid shifts when I select 1 wall or the other which throws my distance off. If someone could help me with this issue, I foud greatly appreciate it.

The grid is tied to the workplane (UCS).  When working with the 2D selector your workplane will change to whatever workplane the object selected was created or resides on. You should get a warning about this, unless you disabled it.  The 3D selector does not change the the workplane in this manner.
