AMD has started shipments of the Bulldozer Chip.

By Peter Clarke, EE Times -- EDN, September 8, 2011
LONDON—Advanced Micro Devices Inc has said it has started "revenue shipments" of the first processor based on its Bulldozer x86 architecture, a 16-core x86-compatible processor codenamed Interlagos.
Initial production of Interlagos began in August, the company said. The chip is compatible with existing AMD Opteron 6100 Series platforms and infrastructure. Many of the initial shipments are set to go supercomputer installations, AMD (Sunnyvale, Calif) said.
If you are doing rendering or anything that can use the multiple cores this may interest you.
I find that rendering with RED SDK and the Six core AMD 1090T chip makes it tolerable.
ASUS has a board that will use the chip out of the box.

I've just ordered a tablet with a CPU at the other end of AMD's scale - a dual-core 1 GHz that sips 6W, has a GPU and runs Windows. It should be hilarious to run the render test on it, wonder if the battery'll last long enough?
