How to calculate Area of polyline in m3

Im trying to work out the area of a site in real world proportions i usually just use the  selection info pallet to calculate the area of polyines but in this case the area is so large that  it comes up w some crazy mathimatical formula as it is calculating in mm is there a way of changing it to calculate in metres

Try the "Area" Measurement tool. Choose the "Meter" option (#8) when doing the measuring.
It gave me "Area = 3.526059 Square m" in the Measurement Info palette versus "Area = 3.526059E+06" in the Selection Info Palette.
