Cannot activate the Arc Length in Dimension Properties
Read 698 times

I have tried changing several seemingly unrelated settings, but nothing lets me activate the Arc Length option in the Radial Dimension tool.

I'm using 2019.

What am I missing?

You activate that checkbox from within the Angular tool, and i use it from there, i have not seen that it works with Radius tool, but that dosent mean it not work from there, only me dont know :)

Going through the menu hierarchy, there is an Angular Ray (which I found), and Angular Line (which I only found under Construction) and an Angular Dimension (which is what I want).  No Angular tool (unless you meant Arc tool).

I found the radio button that switches the Radius dimension tool to measure Arc Length, but it does not activate (see the first post in this thread).

I'd like to see a list of steps to demonstrate your explanation, because I don't understand how to make an Arc Length dimension while creating an Arc.  I was able to create an Arc with the Length that I wanted, but now I want to create a Dimension that shows it.

The subject was about Dimension's and this is the Angular and it is a tool, an Angular Dimension tool, see Attached ;) :)

Jeff,

Draw an arc, open the Angular Dimension Tool, click on Arc Length box to activate it, click on the arc to place the dimension.
See the attachment. Hopefully this helps.

There's so much to learn and not much time left to learn it.

Yeah, got it.  Thanks.

I wonder why the inactive Arc Length radio button exists in the Radius Dimension tool (which I now know mirrors the setting in the Angular Dimension tool, but doesn't change its operation).

I think that it's related to constraints. Auto-dimension a stand-alone arc, the only dimensions that confirm from the options are radial and parallel chord length, which is tangential to the arc, but arc angle doesn't.  The arc length check box is ticked but greyed out in chord length dimension and the radial dimension properties.  You can work it out beforehand and constrain it indirectly, but not use it as a direct constraint.  It's possible that D-Cubed offer arc length as part of the constraints but it isn't licensed or there's little demand because of the indirect facility, I just searched casually and found this, https://community.plm.automation.siemens.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/D-Cubed-2D-DCM-version-70-0-release-highlights/ta-p/600699, which is dated very recently considering that IMSI/TC has been using DCM constraints since TC Solid Modeler in the mid-late 1990s, even before Siemens bought them.
