Create Gable End with Turbocad 2018 Deluxe
Read 1123 times

I am relatively new to cad drawing and am looking for a training video that shows the work around to create gable ends in Turbocad Deluxe 2018. I have searched the forums and have read a couple of posts regarding this problem but was unable to follow the directions close enough to get the desired results. A video tutorial would be great if one exists somewhere.

The only way I see to do this is to Explode the Roof 'once', so it's a TCSurface, then use the "Edit Tool" to select & move the nodes at the top of the roof line.

I tried this while it was still a "Roof", but it only worked on one side. When I tried to move the other side, it rescaled the roof.

Will DL 2018 have "Convert to roofslab" ??, i looked in Expert 2017 as that is just a pimped DL and it was there, but maybe that is one of the thing that is extra in Expert ?
I dont have DL 2018 so cant check it there

Below are the main Architecture tools in Deluxe 2018; the HouseWizard and Markers are not shown. Deluxe 2018 does not have any kind of Slab tool (roof or floor).

Another workaround would be to insert the Roof such that it is too big, causing the apex of the hips/ridge point being further past the desired gable overhang.
Then go to Plan View, and 3D Slice it, deleting the extraneous portion of the hip roof.

But then we still have the problem of the Wall needing to be modified, to extend to the bottom of the gable roof.  Which can be done in a similar way-- Assign a Height to the Wall that makes it extend well above the top of the roof line; then go to a side view and 3D Slice the Wall (probably will need to Explode them first) and delete the extraneous portions.

Another (major) downside is:  Once we do an Explode or Boolean operation on a TurboCAD Architectural entity-- e.g.: "Wall", "Roof"-- it is no longer a TurboCAD Architectural entity with all the features they have.

I finally got this figured out. The walls are 20'×30'.

With the "Edit Tool", select both nodes and move them to one side (+10 feet). It moves opposite of what is expected.
Hold the "Shift" key and deselect one node and move the remaining node the other way (-20 feet).
Both ends should now be "open".

How to fill in the opening is another quandary.

Yeah, that works.  Reminder to anyone wanting to try this:  We first have to Explode the Roof, to get the 2 nodes at the hip/ridge apexes.

Hi Alvin

No, we dont need to explode the roof in v 2018, it's been around for some time, but i dont remember when this nodes turned up anymore.
BTW, nice to see you back here again.

I didn't Explode the Roof, just used the normal "Edit Tool" and the nodes were already there.

Older versions of Deluxe may need to be exploded. I had to do that in Version 19.

We can move the nodes 1 by one, if we try to move it over the "roofline/ edge" it will not work, John's example was with 45 degree or similar in English system, thats why it was half the witdth of the roof he moved the node's, different angle and the distance need to be adjusted to that.
And it did not collapse if set an overhang later, thats nice.
Now we only need a wallmodifier in DL so they at least can make a gable wall.

Thanks John I finally understand how to use that feature.
I think it was introduced at about the same time as roof slabs were introduced.

I only remember because I don't like it. I cant remember why! - something to do with stretching a building.
