Design Director - some layers not showing
Read 2295 times
* June 05, 2019, 04:33:57 AM
Using 2018 ProPlat, with no Layer Templates or Filters.

Some layers randomly don't show up, no matter how much I Refresh DD. In fact this problem now seems to have migrated to Drawing setup (layer not shown), and in the Properties of the entity the layer name is blank.

Any suggestions?

Just remake the layernames and if you write them in exactly same way like the old was, they will re-connect to objects on that layer.

I believe and see this can happen if there are Property Set's in the drawing, and never without PS, so maybe that is the issue in your case also.
Metric system btw.

Thanks! My drawing's behaving at present, I'll try that next time it plays up.

Not sure what you mean by Property Set's? I'm also metric.

You can make a Property Set that will give the Area of a circle in example and you can connect a circle to that Property Set.
Make a Block and connect that to the PS as well, then use the Entety Marker, set it to use a PS, click on the circle and it will insert the Block that tell you/ write the area of that circle.
And if you change size on the circle the area will update in the Block/ Entety Marker.

There is a limited set of choice for what you can connect a Property Set to, and what info you can get out of that spesific object.

For me it is always layer 0 that dissaper first, and more seldom other layers, but it happen more often then i like if i have PS in the drawing.
I have an A and B Template and the issue only happens in my B template, except from PS they are exatly the same.

I cannot find info about Property Sets in the manual (at least by that name).  I realize you may not be working with the English language version, but could you point me in the proper direction?

Thanks in advance,

Does this help?
Here is an example
The polyline has a property set definition. and the labels are entity marks
The entity marks are are blocks with block attributes. The entity marks  are linked to the polyline (or other object) if the polyline changes the data updates automatically. They are a bit of a pain to set up but very useful. You can also extract the data from objects with property sets using the report tool.

As shown in pic. above your post, maybe search "Entety Marker" will be a better Choice, as then you need to use Property set together.
There dont need to be inserted any Entety Markers in the drawing, it's enough just to have PS there, you will find both in the bottom of page inside Design Director.

There are no Norwegian options in TC, just above 5 000 000 people in total in Norway, so doubt that will ever come ;);) :), we use English version in Metric system.
And our charcther set we have together with Denmark, we have 3 more character than English ( Æ-æ, Ø-ø, Å-å ) and as far as i know, only we use that in written language.
So Æ = AE, Ø = OE, Å = AA, is how it will be written in English, Norwegian lesson for today :))

I will investigate, that's something new to me. But I do know that my OP problem isn't related to them!

I agree, as you dont know what it is, you will most likely not have it eigther, and your problem will have a different reason.

+1

I have also had this problem. Though not quite across the relationship between the problem and property sets.

The first time it happened opening and closing design director did the trick.
Can’t always do that now though. Strangely the layers seem to reappear after a few minutes.

I had this problem a few months ago.  The problem seemed to be with one drawing only.  It has about 100 layers and layer filters.  When I would open the drawing sometimes there would be 10 to 20 layers missing.

The layers would be missing from Design Director but would be in the drawing.

When this happened, I would try opening Layer Manager and that sometimes worked.  I also had a problem with layer 0 getting turned off.

I did find that making a new layer with the name of a missing layer caused that layer and perhaps all missing layers to appear.  Sometimes closing and reopening the drawing caused them to reappear.

For a few weeks while I had the problem, I would watch the number of layers that came up in Design Director each time I opened the drawing.  When they were not all there, I would try various strategies until all the layers were visible in Design Director.  I was always successful in getting them back, one way or another.

I do not use property sets but I do read the manual and the forum and try new procedures so I may have caused the problem.

In the end, the problem went away and did not return.

I had the same issue with a drawing in 2017 and sometimes it would load correctly and other times it would open with some layers not showing. Layer 0 always displayed correctly but on occasions it would also vanish during editing of the drawing, I never turn it off intentionally.

For me to overcome the problem I firstly wrote all layer names onto paper, make sure that you get the spellING JusT right. Wrong spelling wont reconnect with a missing layer.

Once you got all layers back in the drawing try copy and paste into a new empty drawing some objects at a time until youve got all copied over.

My 2017 drawing did not use property sets.
