TurboCAD 20 won't select object during 3D add/subtract

I hope someone can please help?

My TurboCAD 20 Pro is now refusing me to perform boolean add/subtract operations. In trying to diagnose the issue I have taken it back to bare bones...

1 - I start a new drawing (I have tried most templates and "New from Scratch)

2 - Draw a 3D object such as a box

3 - Draw another 3D object within the first object such as another box or cylinder

4 - Activate 3D Add or 3D subtract from the tools menu. TurboCAD instructs to "Select the first of solid objects...", but I am unable to select the first object. Instead I just hear the Windows error sound. If I cancel the 3D operation then I can select the object for other operations such as move by 3 points.

Does anyone please know how to fix this? I have tried various templates, various objects and various views.

Thank you.

J

Thank you for the reply, but I don't understand what you are telling me to do. Or, why it would help?

The objects must both be of the same type - surfaces or solids.

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently locked a layer?

The objects are both the same type of object. For example; I draw a box and then immediately draw another box. I cannot 3D add or 3D subtract the second to/from the first. Clearly if I use the same drawing tool with no other actions in between then they are the same type of object, they are on the same plane. The layer is not locked and can be repeated on a new drawing with only three operations.

I have been using TurboCAD since version 17.

The problem was completely solved by thoroughly removing TurboCAD and then reinstalling.

Hmm.

I keep getting invitations to upgrade, but from my observations TurboCAD is now in a race to the bottom since IMSI took over. I bought a cheap copy of the latest (low-end) version and found that: Tools had changed for little apparent reason. New features had been added but no help or documentation on how to use them. As a Software Engineer I don't subscribe to that kind of approach.

Didn't  IMSI own TC when it was  version 17?

You should see the LabVIEW help screens; thoroughly confusing (and my minor was computer science).  ;)

It's always been IMSI or IMSI/Design, but with different "groups" running the show. In 2018 Dave Taylor, et al were shown the door and a new group (led by Zunair) from Lahore, Pakistan took over. I just looked at the TurboCAD site and there's nothing about Bob Mayer or any of the Board of Directors. I guess it's IMSI in name only now.

My memory of the leaders:
Rob Berry -V1 to V7
Mauritz Botha - V8 to V17 (?)
Dave Taylor  - V18 to V24 (2017)
Zunair Attif - V25 to present

While it was Dave that made me a Beta tester, my observation is that Zunair and his people are a bit more involved with the user group here, working on the bug fixes (although not, so far, heeding our pleas for specific additions in functionality).

Well I guess the quality of TurboCAD is becoming a moot point, since Fusion 360 Ultimate is about to become free for Students, Educators and Start-up businesses. For everyone else the subscription is being slashed whilst features increased.

There is no choice but to take a look now.
