New Earring Design from Stretch and Twist
Read 1287 times

Took a Torus, drew a couple lines and used them as references for the Stretch and Twist functions to get this.

Gonna use it to make another pair of earrings for my girlfriend.

Very nice design, and cleverly done.  I don't think I ever played with those tools since they were introduced.

Thanks for the compliments.  I altered the design a bit by slicing off the top at the junction of the twisted and non-twisted sections and invoking the Mirror function on the resulting faces.

I liked the first design, but I like this one more.

Now if I could only figure out how to make it spin on the ear wire.   ;)

Got the earrings produced.  Turned out a bit heavier than I expected, but my girlfriend gets used to them after a couple minutes.

Very nice. Is it feasible to make a somewhat smaller version that wouldn't be so heavy?

I'd have to experiment with any re-sizing.  Of course, the ear wire bail would have to be constant.  Of most concern is the angled sections which were compressed from the original cylindrical cross-section when twisted and would become even thinner when re-scaled.

Love the new design.  Just curious, what material are they made from.

Thanks.  I had them made in Brass at Shapeways.  Too complex to be polished, but they still came out fairly smooth.

They look reasonably close to a plated Rose Gold, except there will be no wear.
