Generic transformation works like assembly by three points (actually three pairs of start and finish points, and actually one or two pairs as well as three, one or two point transforms have to be flag-finished, three point finishes automatically. One and two point transforms are the same as the by point and point-and-edge assembly modes) without group/block/multiple object restrictions and it's in the standard right-click context menu so you don't have to hunt for it. You can assemble in multiple stages, record and repeat for multiple objects or selection sets, making arbitrary copies as you go if you need to. It's useful for exploding assemblies too, and it works well for standard moves without having to relocate the reference point. The Swiss army knife/Leatherman of transformation/assembly tools.
