2016Pro Plat fails to open old files accurately

The new version of ProPlat fails to open old architectural drawings accurately. From what I can tell when an older drawing is opened some walls change workplane and corrupt both sets. I draw the floor plans in 2D and my elevations in 3D. Each is on a separate workplane and stacked over each other. In 2015 everything is correct when opened in 2016 some walls have changed planes. Does the new version have bugs yet to be fixed? If I resave the corrupted file as a 2015 and then open in 2015 the problem goes away. I have attached a file as saved in 2015 the yellow walls are corrupted when opened in 2016.

Yup, I see the problem, but I don't know what's causing it. I did notice that if I copy all the visible stuff and paste it into an empty new drawing, everything looks OK.

Myron, The file looks identical in both versions, I think. I didn't look at everything. can you show where the problem is.
Here  https://www.dropbox.com/s/5vs6okubha4f4xr/1554-2015%20%282016%29.avi?dl=0

is a quick animation that I made in 2016 and attached is an image taken in 2015.
I'm using 2016 platinum 64 bit.

In the 2D floor plan drawing the red ovals show where either the 2D wall or the 3D wall changed workplanes and they both are on the same plane corrupting both.
The blue circles show the walls not joining due to the same shift.
In the 3D render the JPG shows the walls reference point has shiftted when the walls were selected and I do not know the reason for that.
This happens when the 2015 file is opened in 2016, this is not the only drawing this happens in, everything I open has these problems and some are worse than others. I have Installed 2016 on my lap top as well and it does the same thing.

I am sure this is linked to the same problem I had using my template file.
I have preset planes which I use to place walls. In 2016 walls above each other automatically clashed causing the walls to become corrupted.

OK I figured it out I think When I draw my plans I do have a template I use. I draw my floorplans in 2D and my elevations in 3D. I have my Main floor 2D walls on a workplane set at 1", I have my basement walls set at -1/2" and my foundation walls set at -1". This allows me to stack them over each other without corrupting everything. Now the problem is I draw the 3D elevation walls on the "Plane by World" which at 0" so when I add a height to my 3D walls and it passes thru the Main Floor 2D wall plane some of the 3D walls jump to the 2D wall plane at 1" which then corrupts them both. If I move the 2D Main Floor plane below the "Plane by World" the problem goes away.
Does this make sense to anyone? For some reason 2016Pro Plat. cannot maintain its workplane lock if something on one plane crosses another plane it may move to a different workplane.
Now that I know the problem I can open old plans if I change my Template. Problem is I have hundreds of plans so I hope that a fix is in the works because it was not the fix I just Installed.

Can you tell us what version of TC was used to draw the original plans?

Dave,
I don't see this problem with what few of my own files that I have tested, though I do follow the basic rules  ;D

This plan was created with 2015Pro Plat. Before I posted the last message I used Tc2016 and drew a box with the wall tool with the walls on a workplane at 1" then I set plane to world and drew the same box on top of the first one. Then I selected the walls on plane by world and set them to 10' height. Some of thoes walls jumped to the 1" workplane. So for me it does not matter if the drawing is old or new.

I had the same problem that Myron describes. My original template files could have been created in v17? but modified as needed through all the versions.

I am disappointed, I have been waiting for this new update in hopes it would fix my problem opening old files and and the workplane problem. Alas I guess if I want to use the new version of ProPlatinum I am going to have to change the template I have been using since version 11 and every time I open an old drawing I will need to spend the time to fix it so it will work in 2016. I guess it is not a problem in the modeling and rendering part of turbocad only in the architectural part. If someone has a fix or work around I would appreciate the help.

Sorry we could not fix this for the 2016.1 release.   I actually didn't realize it was a huge problem. And in terms of number of users reporting it, this thread is all that I have heard.  We'll see what we can do going forward.  If it worked correctly in TC 2015 it should be working the same in 2016 in my opinion.

I guess I should have remarked that some V15 files I created years ago did not open properly in V21 or 2015.  Just tried one in 2016 and it doesn't seem to have any problems.  I'll have to look for more when I have the time.

Initial reply from development.  ADT refers to the AutoCAD Architecture (formally Architectural Desktop) definition used for the development of our Walls, Doors, Windows, Slabs and Stair tools.

Thank you for sample drawing. We looked at it and discovered the following:
The reason some wall appears as "broken" is that walls created incorrectly.  One wall is inside of another wall that is not acceptable for ADT (you can see it if you turn all layers ON).
Not sure we can do anything with it because it appears as "user's incorrect work with wall" problem.

I realize this does not answer why TC 2015 worked better.  It would also be good to understand exactly why you use this particular technique when creating your drawings?

The reason I have different walls (on different workplanes- the walls don't overlap in 2015 but do in 2016) is to enable hiding different walls in different viewports by hiding layers . For instance a separate layer for foundation walls or first and second floor walls.
Keeping in mind that the ultimate goal is to create 2d layouts from the 3d model.

Autocad architecture has a system in place to deal with this. Whereas as far as I am aware turbocad doesn't.
If I have one wall with a foundation component I battle to drag blocks in to the wall because the position of the block gets messed up. Turbocad windows are inadequate.
How do you separate the first floor layout from the groundfloor layout without using 2 different walls? openings in walls show through if you have one wall going from ground to the top.
