16 bit per channel image save

Only a passing question, but I wonder if it is possible with a plugin or export filter to save an image with 16 bits per channel instead of 8 with the bitmap export, as it would have great advantages with lots of the high res renders as highlights from lights start to band with 8 bits per channel but that banding would be smoothed right out with 16 bits per channel. Does anyone know if the Lightworks engine actually calculates in 16 bits per channel and the export filter is the limiting factor with 8 bits per channel?.

I'm away from my computer, but I think you can find HDRI under the Advanced Render options.

The lightworks rendering engine must use 16 bit images as the cubical maps are 16 bit images so it must just be a restriction in the export filter. It would also be handy to have 16 bit export for saving cubical maps from rendered images.

Just revisiting this topic, anyone have any updated information on the lightworks engine being able to save images at 16 bits per channel as opposed to the norm which is 8 bits per channel.

I don't know for sure, but doubt if the LightWorks plugin will ever have that ability. Maybe, if they upgraded the plugin to LightWorks IRay, but not sure if that has it. You best bet is to contact the people at LightWorks to see what their current software will do.
