importing a dxf file from email

I am attempting to open a dxf file which I recieved via email.  It is a compressed file of 2.2 MG.  The screen mesage tells me that there is no filter to open this file.   I generally have created and saved my own drawings as dxf files without difficulty, but this is my first attempt to import a file in this way.  I am a newbie, please forgive my ignorance!

You said it's compressed, so does it actually have a .dxf file extension, or something else such as .zip, for example?
