Breaking Bezier --- Again

It seems like an old problem has resurfaced. A bezier ( the small one) when offset becomes a multisegmented spline. Any way to fix it.

ALSO What happened to advanced offset?

Thanx,

Ed

Turn off the "Use Compound Profile" option on the IB or Local menu.

Both Offset tools have now been combined into one tool.

Greg,

I tried that - did not make a difference.

Do you mean "auto select compound profile"? I believe that was off.

I thought that was only for chains or sets of connected curves. The bezier is single.

What version are we talking... v19?

If v19.... select the Offset tool... and click on the icon attached, so that it is not on/highlighted.

Works here... with that off.. the bezier remained a bezier.

Greg,

I'm not try to be a PITA but I am sure that is what I do.

In fact I select the offset, the icon for auto compound is there but not highlighted.

I Tab to the distance and type the number of inches. When I press enter the icon goes away completely. The compound icon is not visible or in my local menu.

I'm using 19 pro plat, under XP Pro.

Okay... I think I know what the problem is. I'm using the latest beta... and there were a few things that were fixed/changed with the Offset tool... this may be one of them (Hope I'm allowed to say that).

Sorry... that is the only thing I can think of.

Reading between the lines, modified by correct pol speak, and by a tech not wanting to disappoint a customer, I translate that to "better find a paddle - cause yo shu nuff up the creek" ;)

Any work around?

Me a tech... I'm a volunteer here... the bottom of the food chain.  ;D

Only thing I can offer at the moment is... wait for the patch. And even if I knew... which I don't... I couldn't say when that will be.

Check back when the patch or update comes out... I can tell you then what changes were made.  ::)

Sorry... not sure what else to recommend.

Greg-

Thanks for the try.

I figured out a work around that I will try. Select the bezier, do the offset, then select all the spline segments, change the center, and do the rotation I need to do. That should work and I'll also see if grouping all the splines will cause me any problems further down the pike.

Worse comes to worse - and it may be easier, just trace over the splines with a bezier and delete the splines.

How about selecting the Spline, go to the Selection Info palette, open the "Curve" section, then change the "Curve Type" to Bezier.

The spline is in segments. That only changes each segment. I can make a group out of it but that causes problems later on.

Will this give some joy?Select the Edit tool and choose your object,in the Selection Info Palette Curve+Number of Segment between Adjacent Control Points change the value to half the amount or less?

That still works on each segment. If I could join these segments, without resorting to grouping, back into one spline then I could work with it.

Thanks all!

I believe we have beat this dead horse enough. There does not seem to be a definitive answer.

I will do my bezier, then offset it, then trace over the resulting splines with a new bezier and delete the spline segments. Awkward - but it works.

Maybe the next release/patch will return the offset to it's working state ala 18.

You cannot believe how important this feature is in tapered frame design for boats.

If you've installed the 26.1 patch... you can now offset your Bezier without it becoming a Spline.  :D

Notice two new things to the Offset tool.

1. The "Use Compound profile" can be turned on and off independently of its use in other tools.

2. There is a new option to "Skip Define Distance Step". With this on... the last value entered for the offset distance will be retained, instead of having to enter a distance each time you reuse the tool.

Here what works at my end maybe it will work at your end.I used Spline By Control Points created odd shape than advance offset tool .100 offset draw a poly-line at end than fillet .04 than Region the whole thing than extrude it no segments smooth render no iso lines to make it appear facet. png.enclosed

Greg-

Thanks- it works fine now.

I found the skip distance icon - great change as mine are always the same amount.

I honestly believe that if a problem is solved by a release in Beta - that fact should be communicated to the user community. It would save a lot of unnecessary complaints if it is known that it has been addressed and solved.

WD- Thanks for your reply. But what I need it for are two dimensional lines and it is now working.

Thanx again,
Ed

I mentioned that back when you were having troubles... at least as much as I could.  :)
