18.2 ?
Read 11132 times

I received an email message today from Turbocad.com trying to sell me an upgrade to 18.2 and touting its myriad new amazing features.

I already have 18.1 (IMSI perpetually tries to sell me products of theirs that I already own) but I am perplexed by the mention of a version 18.2 when there is no sign of a patch or update on the website for those of us who have already paid for v18.

What gives?   ???

There is a link to '18.2 Improvements' on one page but it just leads to a blank section further down!

I would contact IMSI to verify that the email is legit and post the results here.
If it's not legit - I would like to see the email posted so the rest of us know that there is something fishing going on. I am running the same version and operating system as yourself and have not been contacted by anyone for an upgrade or patch.

In the email there's a link to "View Online" that points here:

It looks and feels legitimate to me. But what do I know.    :D

As a current owner of TurboCAD v18.1, you will be able to download an 18.2 update patch when it becomes available to the public, directly from IMSI. Follow this link - http://www.turbocad.com/Support/TurboCADv18Updates/tabid/1903/Default.aspx

Dave,
If they fix all of that, my hat is off to them. I am not experienced enough to use all of those commands but it's nice to know they are there if or when I need to.  No one will be able to say that the programmers haven't been busy.
Man, that's a lot of code to write.

You'll have to download the full version I guess. The smaller patch they usually post is not there yet.

My mistake, when you go to download it shows as 55.8MB, so that must be the patch.

Don:

I would suggest moving the file to another directory. I keep my downloads in a c:\Download\Imsi\TC18 directory for example. (for example)

I sometimes see that error when installing HP Printer software which will only unzip into the user area --  it drives me nuts.

Thanks Will, I tried that...but I had the same results with NO joy.

I'll try installing it again in the morning.

I gather it can't find "TurboCADProfessional18.msi" in a Temp folder. In that case I would redirect the InstallShield Wizard to the folder or CD drive where you have the original installation files for V18.

Our patches typically do not allow you to go skip point releases so to clear up any possible confusion I'll make sure that is clear on our website.
So my question to you is,  are you trying to patch 18.0 or 18.1?

Update:

I had 18.1 installed and have now "successfully" installed 18.2.

"Successfully" because I now have to rebuild my custom menus. I can't simply reload my old menus because they have upgraded the menus structure -- so start from scratch... An extra half hour...

Now in case of problems I ran a backup last night (Using Acronis) so I could re-install from bare metal if need be.

I will test today then do another backup tonight.

Now if you are using Red SDK or any other custom setups you will of course have to re-enable all of that.

So far it looks good. It looks like some of my favorite bugs may be banished -- will check that later.

I rebuilt the FM 10 setups and re-loaded my TC Additional Symbol library -- I really must upgrade that too -- someday. All 5 million symbols or whatever...

Using 64 Bit Vista, Asus MB and an AMD1090T 6 processor chip, and an ATI 5750 card which it seems to accept -- though using the "Generic" library. Those fellows really do move along on updating their package...

They haven't added any tools "new" tools that I know of, just added missing ones that you've probably already filled in and maybe removed some of the duplicates. I don't see a need to rebuild from scratch.

After doing a clean uninstall of 18.1 I started again. I installed 18.1 again followed by the 18.2 patch...and everything is good now.

I bought the (download) update of version 16.xx to version 18.1. Both Pro Platinum. Now I am trying to update to version 18.2. I get a message that the installer cannot find "TurboCADDProfessional18.msi".

That file is not on my computer nor is it on the download I bought. How do I install the update?

Hi Groundhog

I had the same problem. All you have to do is start the 18.1 install again (you don't need to uninstall what you already have, this is not going to change anything). The install unpacks the necessary files and will give you 2 options for the location, the recommendend one (first in the list) is a temp location that will be deleted when the install is done (which I suspect is what you did first time around), the second is to a directory that won't be deleted, pick the second. Allow the process to unpack all the files taking note of the location, and then when it askes to continue to the next step press cancel.

Now when you apply the patch and it says that it can't find the .msi file, browse to the location of the unpacked files and it will be their.

Good luck
Alan

Many thanks Alan,
I have also been trying, with no success, to load this patch and in desperation looked to see if anybody else was experiencing the "Missing .msi" file. I don't think I would have found the solution without your help.

John
