Getting start up errors on TC 2018DL
Read 706 times

I have TC2018DL and am using the 64bit version. No problem until today.
Now getting Load/Save config error on start up. If I cancel this 9 times I can open a file but when I save it I get a blue screen System_thread_exception_not_handled.
I have re-installed TC2018DL - still the same proble.
The problem occurs on a Lenovo 50-30 with Windows 10 Home - this is 3 years old and has all the updates on offer.
The problem does not occur on a SurfacePro 4 on Windows Pro
Files in use vary from 20K to 35M

I am really stymied with this one - I guess the next option is to re-install Windows but that is a major job

Maybe try to go one step back in the videocards update.
It can happen that the pc cant handle the latest driverupdate of videocard. as the pc is not updated for the same card.
Do you update that by a Lenovo site or directly update from videocard site.

Torfinn,
Thanks for your reply.
The video is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
with NVIDIA GeForce 840A
Both of these are right up to date - just checked.
All update for software and system modules seem to be handled by the MS Update mechanism.
The Lenovo self test is also up to date

I suspect I will have to bite the bullet and re-install WINDOWS just to see what happens - reluctantly!

What i try to say :)
Mabe your screencard is to much updated, try to downgrade it 1 step to the version before from what you have today and see if that help as it is not sure Lenove machine is updated to the level of handling the latest update of your videocard.

Just to confirm >> Torfinn is saying that the video driver is probably the issue.
There are conversations about >> Drivers actually do NOT match certain Laptop Video Cards.

Just do a "Roll Back" of video driver ... Back to the version when all was working fine.

Cheers

Some expert advice here but I am not convinced the video driver is at fault since the version date is a year old, way before this recent problem (nearly 12 months). I also noted that if I used TC2017DL on some older files that were identical to the latest versions then there was no problem and no crashes. If I saved a TC2018 drawing as a TC2017DL then opened that with TC2017DL there was no problem. But by that time I was getting *******.
I have emptied the PC and re-installed W10 and with a couple of edits of the problem drawings in TC2018 the thing has not crashed.
Yet!

There was an MS update this morning
December 11, 2018—KB4471324 (OS Build 17134.471)

Addresses an issue that may cause some users to see a blue or black screen and receive the error code, “System thread exception not handled.”

Release Date:
11 December 2018

Version:
OS Build 17134.471

This hopefully will have resolved the problem
