Turbo Cad 2018 trial error
Read 1266 times

I downloaded the trial version of 2018 Deluxe and am getting a "Cannot open file" error when opening drawings created in 2015.  After selecting "OK" in the error window the screen is blank but if I scroll around or zoom the page my drawing shows up.  I tried starting as "Administrator" with no change.  I thought maybe 2018 was having a issue with the 2015 file or rendering issue, but if I save it in 2018 and then re-open the file I get the same error.

Thanks,
David

I remember reading something similar a couple weeks ago.  When the file was opened, all the objects were way far away from the origin and, even with 10 bits of precision, there just wasn't enough resolution to draw smooth curves.  Not the problem you are having, but you may need the same solution.

Try opening the file as you did before, then do Zoom Extents (Hot Key <Ctrl><Backspace>), then Select All (<Ctrl>A).
  • If the objects are all easily visible, check the Pos X, Pos Y & Pos Z values in the Inspector Bar.  If any of them is a large number, change it to zero.
  • If the objects are NOT visible, then one or more may be very far away from most of the others.  If this is the case, then you'll have to move some to a more convenient location.

If you can't make Jeff's solution work, please post the .tcw file.

I have tried the suggestions with not solutions.  As requested, attached is one of the files I am having problems with;  but the issue occurs with any of my 3d drawings which makes me wonder if the rendering engine is the culprit.

Thanks,
Dave

I tryd to open you file in Deluxe 2015-16 and Expert 2017 and got the no filter matching … warning.
Open it in PP 2018, no problem, get warning about door.dae and some materials, saved it back to v 2015 and it opens nice with the same warnings about materials and the door.dae from you symbols of course.

If you had RedSDK materials they will not work in v 2018 except if you have the RedSDK plugin, but it should open anyway, as it will open in wireframe.

The file is a 2018 one.  hence won't open in previous versions  :)

Same here, in my 2018 installation. Then I tried checking the "Don't show again" box in the warning about the missing symbol, then saving and reopening, and the problem went away.

Gentlemen I think I have confused everyone.

I am trying to open drawings in Deluxe 2018 that I originally created in Deluxe 2015.  When I open the drawing I get a (Cannot open file error" the only option in error box is "OK".  When I click on "OK" the error goes away and the screen is blank, but if I zoom in or out the drawing appears and the program seems to work fine at that point.  My initial thought was the error occurred due to the version conflict so I saved the drawing in 2018 thinking that would solve the error, but it does not.  Every time I open the drawing I get the same error and have to zoom to see the drawing.  I started the program as "Administrator" and still got the error.  I have tried other files created in 2015 and get the same response so I am assuming that there is a program quirk.

  Any suggestions are appreciated,
David

My version of Deluxe 2015 uses RedSDK and the 2018 uses Lightworks so that may be causing the glitch.  I would hope that they would have created code in the new version to make It backwards compatible with previous versions rather than force us to manually change every material in our old drawings, but my assumption may be wrong.  Is there a way to convert the materials or will I have to open every drawing and block within the drawings and change the materials manually?

Thanks again for your assistance.

I am not sure about Deluxe, but Pro Platinum have a converter RedSDK to Ligthworks materials if you open a drawing with RW in v 2018 and you dont have RW plugin.
But you should be aware of that it maybe not work even if yo have it as they have changed a couple of times how the material files is written to make the material filesize smaller.

Select to open a v 2015 file in v 2018, in the selection window, click on setup, see attached

TC v 2015 dont know anything about a v 2018 file, so if you open a 2015 file in v 2018 and change/ want to save something, you should remember to save as a v 2015 if you ever want to open it in v 2015 again.
