I used TC v19 Pro, so you have the tool. In Don's tutorial on a Model Height Gauge he uses facet editing in an easy to understand way. I think it is in the next to last video. The tracks were assigned the default steel material (as I recall) and the ballast was assigned a material with the image of RR ballast. The ties are from a photo of a railroad tie so as to get the color and texture. The green on the ground is actually a facet assigned a photo of grass. The red-brown of the wheels is a facet assigned a plain color.
Andy, I think I was mimicking SketchUp's method of putting photos on a face. It is more cumbersome in TC, however, but the job can be done if you can find the right artwork.
