Point Cloud Development files needed.

We have developed the ability to import point cloud data.

So far we can successfully import pcd, pcg, txt point cloud files.  We also plan to include geospatial file format (USGS DEM)

However we are having problems finding data sets large enough to help optimize our development of this functionality.
So, I am asking our forums users if they have or have knowledge of data sets of 20 million or more points that we can use to test?
If so we will need to arrange a way to get them.  Thanks!

Find a fellow named Tom McPeek, PHd on LinkedIn.com  A past professor at UCF. He was heavy into point cloud work a couple of years ago.

Dave,

It's a long shot but you could try this chap:

yes, Professor Thomas McPeek. That is him. In the recent past, he was working with point cloud data bases (creating and reading) for architectural uses. After UCF, he was experimenting with point cloud data bases for something to do with agricultural uses. I do not understand it much myself except that the ... 'machine' (for lack of a proper name) would create 3D interior and/or 3D exterior data points. If you are looking for data bases/files for such, he probably has what you need and more. Explain to him you are developing TC software for these uses and need file examples for software testing.

Just an after thought... he may be committed to other software developers and not interested in helping, but if not, you may strike a mutually beneficial deal of some sort. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Dave, is there any update on DEM file import?  I have TC Platinum V 19.2, will this version import a DEM file?  I'm sending off photos of a 5 acre lot I want to build on in the Sierras, and will get the data back in the form of a DEM file from a firm called Dronemapper.

Dave,

Please don't forget to fix the case sensitivity problem on the file name extension.

Here's a 120 MB file, but it is in the Industry Standard LAS format (which TurboCAD 2016 does not import).  So that's two birds with one submission.   ;)
