Interesting results.  The LightWorks render is much cleaner overall, but the REDsdk has an eye-catching render of the glass and displays the marble countertop in way I consider more accurate.

What were your render times?

The work in both look great, but you are doing yourself a disservice by only presenting a screen capture. We would see a better image of your work if you did a 'Save As' to a high res JPG or PNG.

I actually tried to do a save as jpg but the image came out distorted. I guess I don't know how to do it.

Do "File", "Save As", change file type to JPG (or PNG), select "Setup", then change the parameters to desired resolution. Be sure to change "Tile Area" so that the image doesn't come out looking like blinds. I leave mine set to 256. See attached.

Thanks I saved the pictures as jpgs like you said and they turned out right this time. I also rerendered with global illumination fine lighting which took a very very long time. Lightworks is much faster but Ive reposted both as jpegs so you all can see the difference.

That is... surprising.  RedSDK is usually much faster than LightWorks for the same scenes.  I am inclined to believe that you do not have the lighting properly specified for the RedSDK scene (or maybe you have to turn off the LightWorks lights when rendering in RedSDK).

50 sec for light works raytrace full. 19 min and 5 seconds for global illumination fine. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong to get render times so slow on redsdk.

You are doing nothing wrong really. Global illumination can be time consuming especially for interiors. Usually the lighting can be simplified and really Standard Lights should be turned off for the GI Presets.

The Render Scene Environment and Render Scene Luminance should be used for a better more accurate GI calculation..

If you want to get a comparison with other systems, try the benchmark file in the first post of this thread: http://forums.turbocad.com/index.php/topic,8615.msg94205.html.

Because your window size is so large, you would get the most accurate comparison if you make the TurboCAD window fairly small for the render to screen.  The true comparison comes when you Save as JPG to the same file size as the other images that were posted.

If your system compatibility with RedSDK is poor, then the time to save the image will be several minutes.  My first time was 291 seconds (TCW V21, Core i5, 32-bit Win7 Pro).  When I upgraded my hardware and OS (TCW V21, Core i7, 64-bit Win7 Pro), it dropped to 81 seconds.

The TCW 2015 upgrade made use of hyperthreading, so my total time dropped to 33 seconds.  No change for 2016.

RedSDK does allow for the GPU to do calculations and in my first tests with other files, it sped things up immensely, but it crashed on Majo's benchmark file.  I don't know why, yet.

If you really want to see how well your system can perform under Redway's RedSDK, then download the demos from http://www.redway3d.com/home/gallery/demos/.  You can display frame rates (my system typically runs around 450 fps).

Jeff

I did some testing of this a while ago and on my machine with GPU enabled I have to alter all the samples in the materials down to 1 sample otherwise TC hangs. GPU mode is really a pre-visual mode but Redway are making further developments in their code to utilise it more.

I really do not understand what this means.  Where can I read up on it?

Hi Jeff

Yeah see attached.

I go through all luminance's and other sample parameters where sample counts can be specified and change them to 1 sample also.

Darrel,

Thanks for that.

I don't suppose there is an easy way to list all the relevant luminances.

Luminance's with Sample parameters:
Physical
Rectangular Area
Rectangular Physical
Spherical Physical
Sun
Sky

Maybe development should provide an override when using GPU mode?

Jeff,
How did you get your GPU to help in rendering times because the max my GPU load is during rendering is like 17% and that is for a very short period of time. It usually goes around 7 %.
