I've tried to open a TCW and a DXF of the same drawing, and each time I get the same error message- no filter matching this file- what does this mean, and is there any way of fixing it?

More often than not... it means that it was created in a version later than what you are using... which also seems to be the case here.

I opened in a newer version.. and saved back to v16... attached.

Hi,

all things being equal, this often happens when you try to open files which TC doesn't recognise.  For example, you are trying to open a TCW file for a version that is greater, possibly in this case, than the one you are currently running.  So, you cannot open TC files that have been saved as version 17, 18 or 19, etcetera, etcetera.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Greg, you beat me to it!  8)

You can design without engineering, but you cannot engineer without design.
Using Win 10 with Designer 2017-2020 and TurboCAD Pro. Plat. 2018-2020 + Lightworks (64-bit versions) + AnimationLab 5.2.
Windows 10 Pro (1909) 64-bit

If you open the file in Notepad/Worpad, then go to the end, you'll see that it's a Version 19.2.54.2 file. That won't work in V16.

The DXF may have been save in one of the later AutoCAD formats that V16 won't open; such as AC2013.
