Title: Landing Gear Assembly
Post by: Don Cheke on April 19, 2010, 09:19:06 PM
Someone posted a link to Mark Schafer's Landing Gear Assembly PDF that was created with Catia. I was very impressed with the 3D PDF and the ability to measure the model so I decided to recreate it in TurboCAD Pro V17.

If someone remembers what thread this discussion took place, please let me know as I would like to create a link from my news blog to the site where the PDF was found.

EDIT: I found the place where the original PDF is located: http://www.righthemisphere.com/demo-center

Great work Don. Like I said in the BETA forum, TurboCAD needs to be able to export 3D PDF. My 30 day trial is about to run its course on Deep Exploration. :-)

Great looking model .Any plans for a tutorial?

W.D.

EDIT: After in depth look over Mark Schafer's Landing Gear Assembly PDF. the animation is pretty impressive also. The file plays well in 8.1 version.Wonder if it would work in version 9 of Acrobat,Was unable to open and save a simple 2d dwg.file in pdf format,All updates of Acrobat are in place.

I use Acrobat 8 Professional to occasionally create a 3D PDF. Unfortunately, it will only allow 3D models in the U3D format. I've used DAZ Studio as a go between to export my TC work as a U3D file and it works really well. It would sure be nice to get it all done within TC though.

I believe Photoshop CS4 will open a DWG file and export to U3D as well.

Thanks for the info Brad. Have tried Deep Exploration. It is an awsome tool.

Hi Steve. A 3D PDF is a PDF file where the actual model is visible, can be manipulated in 3D space. It is a great way to share drawings with clients, investors, etc. because all they need is adobe reader to view it in all its glory. Alibre Design has this capability and it might be an option for TC users, because you can purchase Alibre Design Std for $200.00. You can export from TC in stp format, open in AD and print to 3D PDF.

Even better, this feature directly in the TC     ;D
