Title: fretsaw
Post by: Andy H on October 06, 2018, 04:51:03 PM
A few nights ago I fancied drawing something.  So I decided on an old fretsaw machine I still have, which I think is from the 1970's.

Instead of the more usual motor driven saw, this uses an electromagnet.  The spring steel at the top of the arm keeps the blade under tension.  The electromagnet pulls down the 'vibration plate' (I call it that because I don't know the correct name), then releases.  It continues the cycle until switched off.

Very nice model.

All I have is an old Eclipse FS70 fret saw and a no name coping saw.

Fine piece of work - thank-you for posting it.

Vibration Plate: I think from memory, the moving part of a solenoid, hence your saw's "vibration plate", is called its "armature"; though this machine's manufacturer might have given it some other name specific to the design.

Terrific model Andy.
