Title: Min. speed/series Intel Processor/Chipset GPU recommendation to run Turbocad
Post by: nadsab on March 14, 2018, 05:30:23 AM
Greetings,

I need to upgrade to a new PC, so I am wondering what would you folks would recommend as the bare minimum speed Intel processor and RAM and graphics card to run Turbocad Platinum?

Thanks

Thanks Torfinn,

Quick question, would integrated Intel HD graphics 4600 on a Core I7 with 8 gig of ram be sufficient?

Or does TC recommend separate graphics cards such as an Nvidia graphics card?

I dont know, but guess there will be others in here that do.
How many GB will also deepend of what you want to use TC for, if rendering i would follow recomended 16 GB if it was me.
I use 32 GB now

How about the Nvidia Quadro K 1200 graphics card.  Anyone using this with TC Platinum?

2016 PP 64-bit runs happily on a Z8300 Atom Win 10 tablet, 4Gb RAM, GDI graphics, if rendering's not a big thing.

How about the Nvidia Quadro K 1200 graphics card.  Anyone using this with TC Platinum?

Very few of us are using NVidia Quadro cards due to their cost, but from what I've been able to gather, they will render photo-realistic drawings significantly faster than gaming cards (which, surprisingly, are among the fastest for AutoCAD).

I plan to get one for my next computer system build.

Jeffin - the Quadro K 1200 is only around 320 bucks.

From what I have read, it was designed for CAD.

I've got an ancient Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 in the olde workstation and a Nvidia Quadro M2000 in the new workstation. They both work well.

Thanks John R.

I am having to buy  a whole new PC so m starting from scratch.  So I guess I am building a new tower again.

With the new motherboards on the market, what would be the best Intel Chipset to run TC Platinum?

This might be a dumb question.  I was reading somewhere that Autocad only uses one core at a time on the newer Intel core processors.

Is Turbocad the same?

If so I guess it does not pay to buy a Core processor with a lot of extra cores....like the i7 and above.  I was thinking maybe i3 or i5 would be enough?

In TC you can choose if you want to use all or a spesifick number of cores, and you want many cores if you should do render stuff in RedSDK :)

I've never built a computer. I just go to Dell and order up a new workstation. Less stress and I haven't had any problems in 25+ years with 5-6 computers.

Currently:
Precision Tower 7910
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v4 @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v4 @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
RAM: 64 GB

Maybe this video will help: Render Test Vista-vs-Win10 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgJHVuXEDKo)
Try not to fall asleep. :-)
Most of the action occurs in the Status Bar.

I am wondering if anyone is running Turbocad on an HP 400-334 Pavilion Slimline Desktop PC with 16 gig of RAM and if so, is it performing half way decent?

It has the AMD two core E1 2500 chip runs at 1.4 gig.

Right now I have that box but with only 4 gig or RAM and I was wondering if I maxed out the ram to the 16 gig is it worth spending the 150 bucks for the new ram?

TC Platinum 2017 runs very slow on it, especially when I switch over to page view to see drawings in 3D.

I have been shopping for a new PC but thinking I might want to wait until Intel comes out with that hardware fix for Spectre and Meltdown problems - from what I have been reading they expect to come out with a new line of chips that will have a hardware fix second half of this year.

I was looking at an Asus board, just got off the phone with Asus - their support dept said they are not even releasing BIOS upgrades any more, until Intel comes out with microcode patches for all three variants and MS comes out with their patches.  Asus was releasing BIOS fixes but it caused crashes with the too early released Intel patches.  I was not aware this was this big of a problem until this week when I started shopping for a new PC and started reading about the problem.

I am using TCW -21 Pro Premium  with an AMD quad core and would like to use all 4 cores.  Can you tell me how to enable all the cores?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Tomas

In Option/ Program setup/ Desktop, see Attached
The pic is from v 2018, but it should still be in that area.

Some people keep one free for different use, i never do and so far i dont have any issues about that.

Torfinn

Thank you very much for the information you so kindly provided.  I started reading several .pdf documents and was not able to find anything, regarding the number of cores.  Basically all I wanted to do is verify TCW 21 was using all the cores in my CPU.  You made my day!

Thanks again
