Title: How much info goes out in a 3d PDF
Post by: bigjimslade on December 06, 2013, 09:48:55 AM
Can I share my 3D PDFs without getting totally ripped off?

What can someone do with it other than print and view?

Rebuild the model? (Hope not)

From what I understand a 3D PDF is a PDF with a U3D embedded in it.  It may be possible to extract that information, but it is intended to be read only. They would not get a solid model just a mesh.

See the attached. There's not a lot of information. The only dimensions are in "model units". It's a good way to share a model without any of the drawings that make it up. I've had issues with 3d pdfs opening in a browser plug in. So download the file and open in Adobe reader or Acrobat.
