Coloring hidden line view
Read 4437 times

I am working on a drawing of some kitchen mods ... nothing fancy and I don't need a full rendering here, just hidden line.  But, I would like the new features to show in the hidden line view as a distinctive color.  I changed the color of the lines in the object itself, but the hidden line view comes out black.  I can understand why this might be so, but wonder if there is any way to accomplish this without assigning materials, lights, etc. and doing a full render.

How have you got the hidden line set up - i.e. right click the hidden line teacup, if its set to hidden line / hidden line, it should show the pen colour, if its set to Lightworks / open GL it will show black.

I agree with Andy. Pen Colors worked for me in normal Hidden Line.

Are the objects in a Group?

Open the group (Ctrl+G) and set the color of the objects to "By Block", then Finish to Edit Group (Ctrl+Shift+G). Hopefully that will make a difference when you assign a color to the Group.

No, they are not in a group.  At this point, there are two boxes, one of which has a box shaped hole subtracted out of it.  These two are on a separate layer, but are not touching and are unrelated.

Any chance of attaching a sample file to see what happens on mine or other peoples systems

Here you are.  It is the two objects on the Spice Shelf layer.

can't tell yet if its a windows 10 thing, I tried the file in TC v15 and windows 7, and both objects show up in hidden line as firebrick colour the rest of the objects are black as set by their pen colour.

I'll try shortly installing v15 on windows 10 and see what happens.

Given what I reported here http://forums.turbocad.com/index.php/topic,20212.0.html I wouldn't be surprised if it is a Windows 10 thing.

Well, sort of.  Both pieces should be firebrick, not one blue and one firebrick.  My background is white ...

It works , use color by layer. The appliance is the same size as your box and firebrick isn't the best choice of color, I used red  ;D

HI,  I installed v15 on windows10, then the 15.1 patch and 15.2 patch.

I get the same silly error message you get about opening / saving, which appears meaningless as everything still works OK, but unfortunately I'm running out of things to suggest regarding your problem as your file worked fine for me, hidden line shows the two objects as firebrick, see attached,  not sure what to suggest now unless its a graphic card issue, though I wouldn't have though that would matter.

When I open tamhas' file in version-20ProPlatinum on a Windows-7 system, I get the Warning Dialog shown below.

If this is the only file tamhas is having issue with, I would suggest just starting over, from a clean Template file, "From Scratch", or from Page Setup Wizard-- tamhas' preference.
And maybe turn off the "Part Tree", if you can do without it; its available in the Pro versions. That option can be found in Options/Drawing_Setup/ACIS/[Create Editing History (Part Tree)].

Hi Alvin,  that message affects anyone using TC v15 with windows 10 to save of open a file, (and any file), my guess is that something is being written into the file in v15 causing the error to occur when newer systems open the file.

I'd be curious Thomas what you experience when you open the attached .dwg version of your drawing file.

Curious indeed ... not only do I get the line color difference in hidden line, but I don't have the warning on read and save.

What are the implications of continuing with dwg instead of tcw?

I don't know the answer. If it were me, I'd save as a .tcw,  then continue on as a .tcw.

So, I tried that ... and the good news is that I still have the line color difference on a hidden line view.  However, I get back the error message on save and, worst of all, all my paper space setups are gone.

That's a drag.
Another curiosity question:  If you start a new drawing-- from a Template or from Page Setup Wizard (preferably-- lessen the chance of an issue carrying over via the Template file)-- can you replicate the Hidden Line Render not displaying entities' Pen Colors issue?

So, since losing all my paper space setups was more significant than the coloring in hidden line, I went back to the tcw ... the same one I loaded before ... but now the colors show in hidden line.

Who knows?

The only thing I can think is the save and reload ... a sort of reverse corruption.
