A small FM10 Project

I will try to attach a few drawing renders to this post. I used TC18.2 and FM10 to update our kitchen. We even went out and got it priced -- they Plugged it into 2020 Cabinet Software and fiddled a bit but could do no better with the configuration.

Brad:

Some symbols come with FM10, some I get out of Parametric Parts and some I get from the 3D bundle I just purchased from IMSI.

In any case I exploded them and re-coloured them.

In most cases the symbols are about as representational as those found in 2020 -- or so I found out today. I went to get the layout priced and was pleasantly surprised...

These guys:

Re drafted the kitchen quickly and priced it out for me. Of course the boss changed all the colors and they tried to re-work it -- but then went back to the original design. ;)

It will have a corner sink due to constraints unseen here -- and I have not yet built a symbol for a "winged" sink...
Something like this...
http://www.build.com/houzer-lcr-3221-1-36-self-rimming-double-basin-corner-kitchen-sink-from-the-legend-series/p1527599

I can see why people get into the symbols business...

Why can't you have the sink under the window?

If you go for a corner sink I think you will need to have a shorter diagonal corner wall unit as you will find it a bit in the way when you are using the tap (faucet)...

When I have designed kitchens with corner sinks, I have either reduced the depth of the wall units in that area, or shortened them in height...

Darrel:

I could -- but I am cheap -- I would have to splice the stove cable (illegal here) or replace it -- over $350. Besides all the venting is in the interior wall which we intend to change to a 2X6 wall to conform with building codes. The bathroom is on the other side and needs the same modifications.

We could switch the stove venting to a wall type vent -- but it is a north wall and we have recorded 45 below in winter (and 45 above in summer).

The exterior wall is a 6" -- but you need a 2" cutout out for about 6 studs and a corner group to reach the current venting.

There is no one reason -- but lots of small ones.  Including a desire for a nice long stretch of counter for baking and food prep. ...and why not under the window --- where the view of the Pefferlaw River is so nice....

The contractor who took over from the original builder turned it into a 40 year old house (upon completion of construction) with his marvelous construction and layout techniques. We bought it five years after it was built at a low price. Fixing it up has been a challenge due to a lot of bad decisions and incompetence on the part of the contractor.. Other than that...

e.g.

Question: What is the use of 14/2 NMD7 wire in the basement rooms?
Answer: You drill holes through the top of the wall plate and use wire clamps on either side to hold up the wall.

Question: Why do you drive screws half way through drywall.
Answer: So the ceiling will stay up and be more secure.

Question: Why are nails only driven in half way.
Answer: I have not a clue on that one.

Question: Why is the septic pump station buried under four feet of soil when the frost line is four feet down. (Fixed now)
Answer: Beats me!

I could go on... but why bother?

The contractors hammer battery went flat!........ what shape should it be?  ;D

Wow.... but it is a north wall and we have recorded 45 below in winter (and 45 above in summer)......that's extreme!  :o
