What format does the autosave setting save as?

I've got my autosave set to save at 10 minute intervals. When Turbocad autosaves does it overwrite the previous copy of the saved drawing and what format is the autosave in?

.asv.

Not sure if it overwrites the previous or not... I've never used it.

I thought that was the case Greg but it hasn't saved for a month and I've got it set to save every ten minutes. I think I'm right in that the setting is the one in Options-Program setup-General ?

One of the reasons I've never used it.  ;D

I just tried it... set the time to 1min... and it created a .asv file in TC's User Data\Documents folder

AutoSave is working here.

It creates a ASV file in the AutoSave folder. Any time you Save, the ASV file will go away and a new one will be created in 10 minutes. The TCW file is updated at this point and the previously saved TCW becomes the backup drawing (*.BAK). If you crash, then you'll have an ASV file, but normally, this folder should be empty when you have finished using the program.

Nope, not working here. I just did a search for .asv on the computer just in case it was saving somewhere else, but no, the last save was just over a month ago. Not a very reliable backup to rely upon. Something else in TurboCAD that doesn't work properly  ???

I just reset it to save at 1 minute intervals and it is now saving at every 4 minutes. So, to get it to save every 10 minutes I should probably put the setting on 2 minutes I guess but I'm not sure how reliable it will be  :-\

I think you shouldn't really need to have the autosave setting set for that short space of time.....I think it could slow you down a bit and could cause more crashes depending on the tool in use is...

I also did limit the amount of "undo's" to just one in all previous versions of TC to help save memory...

The possible reason for the timings being a bit erratic could be down to what you are doing in TC when the scheduled save is due..... certain tools or editing a group can hold up the Autosave I would have thought.

I have always been happy with how good TC is for Autosaving and backup files compared to some other software I use.... it is now even better when a crash happens as most of the time it asks if you would like to try and save the file...
