Blocks and symbols - what's the difference?

This is a two part question.
First, what's the difference between blocks and symbols? I understand the concept from my autocad days but I just can't figure out what the difference is.

and
Second where are blocks stored by default? The location isn't listed in the file locations menu.

A drawing's Block library is internal to the drawing, and is stored within the file.

Symbol libraries are similar, but are stored outside of the drawing as separate drawing files and can be accessed while in any drawing.

don't forget the Xref's - these are blocks and are not stored in the file itself, they are loaded upon inserting and are only referenced to...

You should see the attached prompt in the bottom left corner of your message screen.
Click on remove topic
