Can anyone tell me what this message indicates? I get it when I copy a part.
Thanks, Marc

I meant to point out that data is lost as well.

Yes, I would like to know why that appears myself.  I can't say what I did to get past it because I try random things and not sure what corrects it.  Though, it happened in V14pro, hasn't happened in v16pro yet.

I thought it might have to do with how I make the mitre on the end of the tubing. there is probably a better way to do it. It seems to me that the way I do it is rather combersome, several operations to make one cut. I would like to make assemblies that use multiple copies but I think I'm going about it the wrong way. Hope someone here can help me out.

re: "Failed because selection contains graphics which are read only"

Do you have any layers turned Off or Locked? I've seen this, but I can't trigger it at the moment.
If I turn off Layer 0 I get the usual "Object extents are invalid. Object(s) will be deselected!" warning.
OK, I Locked Layer 0 and got the error message.

The moral of the story, don't turn off or lock Layer 0.

I ran into the problem of turning off layer 0 in the past. I havn't done since. The layer is not locked either. It's a new file and only has layer 0 plus 2 others. Thanks for the input. Are you saying you got the 'read only' error or the 'object extents' error. they could be different.

I looked at this some more and came up with something different unrelated to Layer 0.
All layers are On.
Layer_1 has a 2D profile.
Layer_2 has a Simple Extrude from the profile.
"Use Compound Profile" was used so that the profile is associated with the extrusion.
Layer_1 (the profile) is locked.
The extrusion on Layer_2 is copied (Ctrl+C)
I use Paste (Ctrl-V) to place a copy of the extrusion back into the drawing.
I get the error "Failed because selection contains graphics which are read only"
I do get the extrusion and the profile when I paste into the drawing.
If I use the Rubber Stamp or Make Copy features from the Local Menu, I don't get an error and only the extrusion is made.

I get the same error if Layer_1, the Profile layer, is turned Off and not Locked.

I hope this essay isn't too confusing.

All layers are On.
 ::Check
Layer_1 has a 2D profile.
 ::Check
Layer_2 has a Simple Extrude from the profile.
 ::Check
"Use Compound Profile" was used so that the profile is associated with the extrusion.
Layer_1 (the profile) is locked.
  ::I think that I keep it on al all timed. but the layer (profile) is not locked.
The extrusion on Layer_2 is copied (Ctrl+C).
 ::I used 'Make Copy' and translated the copy using 'delta x' to put in the proper location.
I use Paste (Ctrl-V) to place a copy of the extrusion back into the drawing.
 ::Ditto above
I get the error "Failed because selection contains graphics which are read only".
 :: Same results
I do get the extrusion and the profile when I paste into the drawing.
:: Some times all the parts show up sometimes not.
If I use the Rubber Stamp or Make Copy features from the Local Menu, I don't get an error and only the extrusion is made.
 ::Different results

I get the same error if Layer_1, the Profile layer, is turned Off and not Locked.
 :: didn't try that.

This is more annoying than it is problem. The idea of using parts that have errors makes me think that I will have problems donwn the road.
