Inserting georeferenced maps

Hi:

I have been building seamed topographic maps using All Topo Maps v7 Professional, and would like to insert them into a TCad 17 drawing so that I can draw contours, etc.  I also want to bring other shape files into the drawing so that I can add features to my map.  Does anyone know how I can bring a georeferenced TIF into TCad so that it properly references the UTM grid and has the correct projection?  I can do this very simply in AutoCAD Map, so I have to believe that there is a way in TCad.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all.

I have used Global Mapper to tile maps for use in GPS etc... (Trimble High Precision GPS and ArcPad)

See:
http://www.globalmapper.com/?gclid=COXLleHbnq0CFQhbhwod0VOdlw

I just tested some of our DXF files that we can generate from INEGI maps -- sometimes we get them that way and the UTM scale seems fine.

I loaded the files into TCAD (Version TC 18.2) by the Insert (menu) Then chose the File item -- the layers came in properly and it built up the map layers so that they registered properly...

I did not see any way to add a Geo-Tiff file (xxx.tfw)that contains the standard description like so:

13.52587982210962100
0.00000000000000000
0.00000000000000000
-13.52587982210961900
465193.76293991104000000
2266841.23706008910000000

For those who don't know a geo-tiff file is a two part deal -- where the tfw file contains the registration and pixel size info etc.

So this appears to be a TCAD issue. Whether they choose to support TIFF (Geo) is of course up to them -- but it's tough to do serious mapping without it.

In the meantime -- dumping out those maps (from some program) as DXF will work as it embeds the UTM coordinates. I tested and verified that.

Maybe GPS2 TurboCAD or TurboCAD Surface Modeler would be useful here.

John:

I see no functionality on either of those products to import a GEO-Tagged Tiff file. Points yes. Maps no.

Maybe you can show me where to look. If it did work it would be of great interest.

In the meantime maybe the makers of those projects could comment.

That is why I suggested the conversion to DXF from the other products.

PS:  I may be wrong here.

Look for the Geo-Image Filter. I saw no such reference on the TC site and this is a very important point.

The surface modelling site is not that informative either.  Had we seen this earlier we might have used it for some mapping projects.

Well, on the positive side is the human-machine interface on my end is not completely broken, because this clearly is not a straightforward issue.  I appreciate the help guys, and hopefully we will get this one figured out.  In the meantime I will try the DXF route.  I think that Will is correct, there is probably a bunch of interest out there, and as he noted, mapping work essentially requires the ability to do this insertion.

I know nothing about those programs, other than that they deal with mapping to some degree. You could contact Dave Taylor and see if he can put you in contact with someone that knows these programs.

Maybe try

paste image as object
move it to approx coordinates
resize object
image may need to be 'shopped for x,y before inserting ( if not square grid
