I have tried to join lines to no avail.  No local menu pops up.  No option to finish available.  When I click on the join or chain icon nothing seems to happen.

Please post a file that shows the problem.

The form on right was drawn using the polyline option, as was the form outside of the triangle.  I can't get the triangle to become a single polyline.

re: Junk 2.tcw

If you look at it from an isometric view, you will notice the "Line" parts are 3D. Change their Thickness to "0" and they can then be used to create a polyline. Also, in the upper left-hand meeting point (line-2-arc) is an extraneous zero length line that may create problems when trying to do a "Join Polyline" operation.

re: When I click on the join or chain icon nothing seems to happen.

You have two choices when using the Join Polyline tool. Activate the tool, click on the connected line/arc/curves, then choose "Finish Join Polyline" from the Local Menu.

The more popular method is to select the necessary line/arc/curves with the normal Select tool, click on the Join Polyline tool, then choose "Finish Join Polyline" from the Local Menu.

Your triangle in the "Junk.tcw" will "join", but won't be closed because two endpoints don't meet. If used in an extrusion, you'll get a ribbon and not a solid object.

Changed thickness of lines but still can't join them.  The join box turns blue when I pass the curser over it but does not lock in when I click it as rest of the boxes do.

After changing the thickness of both lines to zero, select one of the 4 segments, press and hold the 'Shift' key then click on the remaining  segments one at a time. From Modify Select Join Polyline next click the checkered flag on the IB to finish.

I can select all the lines but when I click the join polyline icon nothing happens.  I see no checkered flag on the Inspector Bar or a finish button on any menus.  Will be getting a upgrade to 18 next week.  I hope this will fix my problem.  Will get back to you if it does not.

I can't change this part to a polyline.

There's a piece of space dust near the upper LH corner of the objects, as shown in the first attachment hereto. Delete that; set the 3D Thickness of the two lines to zero. Select everything; place on Workplane; activate Join Polyline; click the Finish flag. Done.

This is what I see. The two Line objects have a 0.6 Height in Properties (01 pic). Once they're set to Zero, they become 2D and can be joined. Select the two arcs and two lines, click on the "Join Polyline" tool, right-click and choose Finish from the Local Menu or Inspector Bar (02 pic). I didn't experience any workplane problems.

Installed Turbo Cad Deluxe 18.0 2D/3D.  Still can not get the join polyline or chain polyline to activate.  Is their an option that coulb be turned off and on.  Try everything above but still can not join the lines.

I don't suppose you could back-save from 17 into 16 deluxe? I'd like to take a look at it if possible.

Usually when I can't join up lines, it turns out to be that something is "off" the workplane. This discrepancy is apparently in the mind of the software and can't be detected by inspection.

I really think this is a problem with program.  I just updated to 18 and still can't get it to work.

Well, if its a problem with the software, then it must happen between 16.2 and 17, or the back-translation stripped out the bad bits.

Did you apply the patches to bring your version 17 up to 17.2 ?

I just selected the entire set of lines, clicked on the double-mushroom icon, and then the finish flag, and it was joined. I was then able to simple extrude the shape and it formed a 3D object (not a ribbon).

I tried it in 2D/3D mode and 3D mode, and I tried the join tool in 2D mode and 3d mode, and every which way it seemed to work.

Just for fun, you might see if you can take the version you made for me and load it into 17 and then apply the same process. Its possible that there were some anomalous entities in your original that got cleaned out in the conversion process.

Zoom way in on the red circle, there is a gap between the line and blue arc.

The Hatch command will actually do the job, because in addition to the fill, it creates a Polyline boundary around that fill. After creating the Hatch (by selecting the defining geometry elemenst(s) and applying Format>Create Hatch), open its properties dialog and set the Brush Pattern to "None." The polyline itself will remain.
