Scale ruler changing

I have a drawing and included in it is a scale, showing its dimension of 480 inches.. The true measurements and the scale of course agree.
When I select the drawing and include the scale, then scale it so it fits on the paper properly (x and y both .25), the printed dimension on the scale changes to 120 inches.
How can I get it to remain showing 480 inches.

Thanx

One way is to explode the dimension, which converts it to a collection of lines, polylines, and text. Select the text and change the 120 to 480.

Seems that I run into this quite often - if I change the scale, in your case 1:4, of the part, then the new dimension will be 120. If I change the scale of the drawing, then I'll see the 480 dimension as desired.

This is my understanding; and it seems to work.

Maybe I'm dense but how did you do the latter step? ???

Load the view from model space into the drafting pallet as you normally would. Open paper space and under Options/Space Units set the Paper Space scale to that desired - e.g., in your case 1 in = 100 in will fit the 480 inch dimension on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet.

Only then insert your view into the paper space. When dimensioned, 480 length will now show as it should: you will likely have to resize the font, however.  The rulers will remain at 8-1/2 x 11.

There's probably a more elegant solution, but this is what I use.
