Objects coordinate system changed

I've been working on a number of different projects and just yesterday I encountered a problem that I can't figure out. Up until yesterday, when I would draw a 3D object and then rotate it - the coordinates would initially show the rotated coordinates but when I would unselect that object and then re-select, the coordinates would change to the new coordinates. In other words, if I drew a rectangular box with the long axis on the X-axis: X:4 in, y: 2 in, z:.25 in and then select the box, it shows me a #d object with the Z-axis pointing up, Y-axis pointing to the rear and X-axis pointing to the right.

When I rotate that object 90 degrees on the Y-axis the axes now show Z to the right, X downward and Y to the rear. That's what I've always experienced in the past and that's OK. However.... when I select another object now, then come back to the first object I see it exactly as I last saw it, with Z to the right, Y to the rear and X downward. I used to see the axes shift back so that Z was always upward, Y to the rear and X to the right. Now they don't... BUT... with the object rotated and Z pointing to the right, when I di a Delta Z by 2" the movement is upwards (along the negative X axis (as they are observed)).

I'm guessing I accidently twiddled a bit somewhere in the Preferences but I can'tfor the life of me figure out where to even begin looking! Help!!

Upload a screen capture of your Selector Properties popup.  If the procedure to do that is not immediately apparent, right-click over the main work area and select Selector 3D Properties.

Under Extents CS, select View CS.  Be sure that User CS or World CS is selected under Coordinate System.

Is this how you remember the display working?

Jeff,

THANKS!!! That wasn't quite it but you pointed me in the right direction. I ended up with Extents CS: User CS and Coordinate System: World CS and that is perfect! I'm back in business!

Thanks again! You folks are great!

Huhh... not doing anything for me with that combination.  I select, rotate, de-select and re-select and the rotated angle is displayed as zero.  There seems to be another setting that I have overlooked.

Any help?

What you describe is what I've been accustomed to for some time and it wasn't doing that, causing quite a problem especially when it is showing coordinates. If I rotated things and then tried to move them using delta X for example the objects would move in an unexpected direction. very frustrating!
