New costumized material, saving problem
Read 260 times

Hi everybody

I have a weird problem. I can create an apply new costomized material (texture) on my objects and it work fine. I can save my file with no error message

The problem is when I reopen my files with the costomized material. Turbocad (any version) overwrite my new materials because it can't find them and effectively when I'm looking for my new materials I cannot find them. Turbocad keep the new Category but don't save my new materials

Can anyone help me please!

In version 2018, double-click on a problem object to open its Properties dialog. Go to the "Material" page and select "Active Drawing" from the Category list if it isn't already displayed. Open the "Material" list and see if your customized material is listed.

Just to be sure that we're both talking about the same thing, can you post a screenshot of the Materials page of the object's Properties dialog, with the "Category" list open?

You don't have an "Active Drawing" Category? If not, there may be something wrong with your TCad installation. Many users recommend deleting the "Built-In" folder, but my own preference for fixing an installation that's gone sour is to run the TCad Installer again, with the "Repair" option enabled.

Look at the top of the Category list for "Active Drawing" in Properties or the Palette.

How have to got your preferences setup for how your materials work. The later releases of TC is set not to keep adding materials to the Main Database as it can become an overly large grave yard of multiple copies of the same material. By default any materials are only stored with the drawing so they are not store in a TC Main Database category but in the Active Drawing list.
You can change this though in the Advanced Preferences so that your drawing materials also get stored in the Database so are available for new drawings to use. Details here about this here - http://doc.imsidesign.com/articles/#!turbocad-2018-user-guide-publication/model-shaders-and-applications-shaders-1/

I prefer not to do this as it is very easy to copy them if you really want to in a couple of ways...

1. To right click in the Material Palette and click on copy to database:

Enable the Details for the Material Palette so you can see where they will be located:

2. The method I use a lot is to copy between open drawings... This shows a simple example:

Hi Henry

There's no "Active drawing" in the Material. I'll try to fix with the Repair option of the TC installer as you said. The problem is on the others version of TC too. I'll try this tonight because I have to go work

Thanks I think it's gonna be helpfull!

Hi John

Effectively there's an "Active drawing" in the material palette :-) It's curious the option is on the Material palette and not in properties dialog box

Thanks John!

Hi Darrel

My Material palette in TC 2018 Pro Platinum is little different than yours. I cannot find the "Copy selction to TC database" (see attached file). Do you make a costum install to have this?

I'll take time tonight to read the article you mentionned, I have to go work

I'll try this!

No custom install but think about it logically, the copy to database will not show those options when you are already looking in the TC Database... Only when you look at the Active Drawing/s will those options show.

Just so you are aware.... if you don't have any materials in the drawing yet then the "Active Drawing" Category does not show in the Properties Dialog Box.
