New Lightworks 2018

At first I wasn’t happy with this render but when I came back to it, I liked it and thought it looked similar to as if it was a sunny day then clouds started to roll in.   :) LightWorks has a mind of its own.
Testing the new Lightworks engine in 2018. One of my simple architectural test drawings that I use frequently in different versions.
I use both LightWorks and RedSdk render engines and tend to find myself caught in the middle between the two.
LightWorks now supports “normal maps” and has added a few new features in the advanced “Final Gather” render styles, which I used in this rendering. No post editing of the image.
The Palm trees are Billboards created from 2D images.
Each year I ask for them to be automatic in TC but no luck  :P. It's too bad because they're a lot of fun  ;D

Some info about normal maps here  https://www.pluralsight.com/blog/film-games/bump-normal-and-displacement-maps

looks great Dean...
Is it an AR render Style you used?

I don't think I could ever go back to Lightworks to the extent for interior renders as I used to hate the blank screen while the render was being drawn to a buffer with no visual feedback.

Thanks Daz  8)
I’m glad you appreciate the render it means a lot to me.  :)
Yeah, I’m using a custom AR render style. LightWorks made some improvements to the Global Illumination, Final gather. I'm using the new Normal maps, as well.
No tricks here with lights just using a Sky RSL.
I haven’t any problems with rendering even with larger files though I always use “surface” objects, no part tree or ACIS solids.

Okay Great.

Converting to surface objects.... is that more that you run out of physical RAM?

I should have added more RAM much sooner as this is one major factor with how TC performs especially when it comes to stability, speed and avoiding crashes. When I had only 12GB this would all be used then TC starts using virtual ram on my SSD. Although SSD's are much faster and improve speed they still are a bottle neck and where the crashes occur for me when they just cannot handle the data that physical RAM can handle. Probably one reason being is that the OS begins to struggle to handle it and for its own data write and reads.

Now I have 24GB it is far more stable and can handle more. I nearly always monitor it with Task Manager and often flush memory when it's getting close to using all the Physical RAM.

There is currently a worldwide shortage of RAM as Samsung, Micron and Hynix who make nearly all of it (96 percent) have been concentrating on mobile phone memory manufacturing so prices and limits on how many sticks we can buy at a time have been introduced on many memory resellers online..

The resent problems with ram is because of the crypto mining, but it start to go back to normal again now they say.

Ohh, nice render Dean :)

Crypto is affecting GPU costs/availability... I was told the RAM problem by a computer builder expert was because of what I said...

"Converting to surface objects.... is that more that you run out of physical RAM?"

Daz,it has nothing to do with ram.
I get better overall performance with surface objects, my computer hums like a humming bird and less wrapping errors. I can tell when TC is struggling with the geometry during a render and I always check the normals.
My rig works best with full cpu render even with redsdk, brute force, a little slow but it just works. I’m not that interested in the whole gpu thing anyways.

Thanks old buddy  :)
When I get some coconuts from the palm trees I’ll send you some. :)

Hei gamle ørn

Looking forward to that, a nice Pina Collada from fresh coconut, even if i go down a bit on Pineapples it's no problem, i just adjust the amount with some more rom ;);)
