RedSDK Render LIbrary
Read 487 times

Hello,
I would like to know if there is a good library of materials I can import directly into TurboCAD for use.

For example, I'm currently looking for a "grass" material.

I'm using TurboCAD 2016 with RedSDK.

Help appreciated.

Here's something quick using a diffuse, reflection and bump map textures for TC2016 in RedSDK

Hope it's something you can use...Epacked the drawing so should include and the images. the file is to big to post here so I have dropboxed it to download link - http://www.dropbox.com/s/xso2sgorgrt74v9/RedSDK%20Grass%20Material.zip?dl=0

Darrel:

Would you please explain the various components that are not immediately obvious for those of us who are still getting acclimated to RedSDK lighting?  What is the purpose of the transparent sphere that surrounds the scene?  Does it work with the Render Scene Environment or the Render Scene Luminance?

Hi Jeff

Sure, the Sphere is so the sky RSE Background is exposed correctly by the photographic tone mapping with full scale brightness of the RSE and RSL Sun and Skies...
Without this it is just a white out.  ;)

Hey, Thanks Darryl,
That looks exactly what I'm trying to achieve  8)

Need a little setting up the surrounding sphere as a "sky".... I assign a sky environment to the model, created the sphere. Properties of the sphere luminance set to the sky.

The result is really dull and no ground shadows etc...

Your assistance is appreciated.

RSE = Render Scene Environment
RSL = Render Scene Luminance

Standard lighting is not used here and the RSE is the Sky & Sun Reflection and the RSL is the Sky and Sun Luminance. The sphere has it's normals reversed so the photographic tone mapping exposes the Sun/Sky background correctly. The material of the Sphere with an IOR of 1.001 (Transparent) which is just off being an Air material so will not bend the light rays. Although yes, it is a solid, this is still a thin skin when inside the sphere itself.

Darrel,

I gave your drawing a try in Quality and Advanced RedSDK rendering. Why does the "GI Medium Quality…" Render Style in Advanced only use 7 threads, when much more is available? I looked at its properties in the Render Manager and nothing stood out there that could be changed.

Hi John.

I only have 8 thread on my laptop and using 7 of them enables a bit more stability and I can use other programs etc while it is rendering.

You can up it to whatever you want in the render style.

2048 threads is the default but obviously will not be used and will just use the maximum available on our machines.

Max Threads location attached:

Okay, I found the "Max threads" line in the "Ray trace" page. I upped it to my max of 48 and went from 6¾ minutes down to 124 seconds. When I set it to "2048", it just went to 121 seconds.

Too many pages to look through.  :-\

Hi

Reversed Normals is turning the sphere faces that would normally be facing outward to one sided and face inward... see attached in the properties of the sphere:

Not sure why you are editing and deleting your posts as it makes it very hard for anyone who is also reading this thread for it to make sense as our answers are not making sense now.  ???

Please try and leave your previous posts and write a new one thanks!

The Sphere does not have any luminance added to is as this is set up in the RSL see the help file here - RSL

Thanks Darryl.

Yeah, I was deleting the post because I found my answer before a response, I deleted then your response posted...bad timing, apologies. I'll just leave them from now on.

Understand the rendering a little better now. I have trouble seeing the sky environment when renderng, the surrounding sphere is only transparent when selected. When not selected the rendering is excessively bright...

Thanks again.

No Worries...

Okay, the Sun and Sky brightness is set to the render engines physical correct intensities of 1 and can only be properly displayed using the Advanced Renders Styles with Photographic tone mapping to bring the image down to be displayed correctly.

More info on Tone Mapping here - http://www.redway3d.com/downloads/public/documentation/bk_pi_tonemapping_explained.html

Rendering in Draft, Standard render styles will not work and look blown out as you are experiencing.

You can of course lower the intensities of the skies and suns in the RSE and RSL for these to work in these lower quality renders with limited options.

Thanks, I am doing the advanced renders but for reason that I canont get the sphere to be tranperant and I don't see the sky enviornment...therefore I have to reduce the intensity of the sun..

Could I please ask you have a quick look at the drawing I have and see where I am going wrong with the sphere and Environment?

Appreciate you help to date

Go to the "View" section in the Design Director. Click in the "Active" column of "View_0". This will bring you to the view that Darrel set up to view this properly.

Hopefully this helps.

Hello,
Try the attached drawing in the zip file,it's a smaller and perhaps a simpler drawing.
run a 'quality raytrace render as seen in attachment.

Sorry, I created the drawing in 2017 > I'll convert it to 2016 later.

2016 drawing is now attached  ;D
