I also use 32 bit for database stuff.
I do think you want to use property sets. They have the advantage over "custom properties" as you can use the information in conjunction with entity marks to label your items too. I presume the parts are in blocks. Unfortunately, you cant use groups with property sets.
In the style manager palette
go to property set definitions
click the new icon (at the top)
give your property set a name (I called mine "part")
click the empty block under value and a palette should pop up
tick block reference. (bottom section)
There are a few types of property sets you can choose from
"Automatic" - would be attributes that are already known about the block ie: name, layer, colour etc
"manual" would be user defined ie manufacturer, part number etc
I mainly use "text" or "auto increment integer" or "auto increment character"
Click on manual choose the type of property from the drop down list
give it a name and a default value. You can have a list of definitions for one part.
Make the block used for the entity mark.
Use block attributes in the block.
the tag needs the name of the property : the name of the definition
define entity mark definition in the style manager
give the entity mark a name
then click on the empty space below value
click on add and choose the block you want to use as your entity mark.
on the right you can select the angle you want to see the entity mark from ie: the top, left or right view.
So you can have 3 different blocks showing different definitions depending on the angle you are viewing the part from.- that gets complicated though.
select the items in your drawing that you are going to give these properties to.
in the selection info palette under general, property sets click the value column next to property sets and choose the property set you want to use.
You can change the values for each item individually here.
use the entity mark to label the items.
This seems a lot of effort.
but if you set them up in your template then you only have to do it once.
