Slice off an part!

Gents,

I'm struggling very hard to slice off an part, I so close but I think I'm messing up with plans?

Attached is a picture of what I wanna cut away and also the cad file itself. In the file I have removed the line I actually find hard to draw.
And replaced with another line I try use for cut.. Also this line was hard to get in place... Plans ... plans :-)

Anyone who may demonstrate this ?

Best regards

Hei AldriStopp

Use "Slice by Workplane", a very handy tool.
On a tube you cant set the workplane with controll so go to Front View and set workplane by aktive view, then Draw a Box that follow the place you want to to slice, then set workplane by facet on the Box.
Activate Slice tool, check for "by Worplane" and also "Delete the sliced" part is good to use, then click on the object and a second time on the part that you want to take away, finish :)

Great Torfinn, you saved some of my hair now :-)

I assume the box was just to get the cut plane and to easy set the "facet" workplane?
But I guess the workplane could be set without the box also? But I like your version here.

This also gave an opening to shorten the beam and extrude to surface.
Or is it also an 3D trim "alike" tool ?

I attach how it look like before I delete the box and the cut for future reference.

Again thanks!

Hei AldriStopp

Yeah, the box is just for set workplane, you cant set workplane on a tube, but you could have stand in front and wp by active view or wp by world and top view, in the 2 last cases it is important to look 90 degree on the object if you use by 2 point as that will always Slice in the direction/ angle you see, by workplane is very handy if you have many that should be sliced and you need to stand in a perspective view to see what to Slice.

When it comes to hair my problem is the opposite, there are to much and i look like a "lykketroll" when i finaly take the time and go to a hair dresser :)

Hi
which version are you using? There are other ways to do this but it depends on the Turbocad you are using

I selected the Line, which changed the workplane to the bottom of the bar. I then used the "View…by Workplane" (Ctrl+Shift+W) to view that object in a "plan" type of view. Then I could use the "Slice by line (2 points)" option.

Another tool to try would be the "Insert / 3D Object / Quick Pull" tool. Click on the highlighted end of the bar, then Vertex snap the Line to move the end of the bar back to the Line.

Thanks for the video John R.

Did you use camtasia?

This is what I attempted with the line, and now you showed me :-)
Also this gave me more understanding for some setting and use of plans.
Maybe this could been used to set out the angel beam (flat iron) to start with.
I struggled hard... So I now feel like 5-7 % fully educated on plans :-)

But with use of quick pull the angle is left to fix. Is it any way to fix this directly or will it be needed to use the box and extrude to?

Right now I'm not actually looking for the best way, but see different ways to do.

All together for this operation I think Torfinn's solution was most easy due the several operation, and maybe more visual ?
We will need to set out line or box anyway?

Best regards

I used Camtasia 8 on my old Vista workstation.

After selecting a face to pull, a "Height" field will appear in the Inspector Bar (think of it as "Length" in this case). You can use that and input a plus or minus value instead of snapping to some point.
