Move Cursor And Snap
Read 213 times

How do I move cursor and THEN snap to start placing an object?

In this case it is a 3D box.

It would be moving cursor with 3 input fields at bottom toolbar maybe?

Thanks!

Okay.

The fields in the Inspector Bar are moving the cursor.

The catch is FROM WHAT point?

Is there a way to manipulate the starting point?

Thanks!

Where do you want to place 3D box ?  Not sure what you are trying to achieve, but if you want to place a 3D box on the four long pillars/boxes, just as I did in the attached image. Then, make sure that your Snaps are turned off. Select the 3D box, and rightclick to select Workplane by Facet from local popup menu. now you can select the top facet of one of the pillar/long boxes; hit V and this is where your starting point is selected on one of the corners of the selected (top) facet.  :P

After activating a 3D (or even 2D) tool, "Shift+Tab" into the Coordinate Fields. Input the start location in the X, Y and Z fields, then "Enter". Now you can "Tab" into the Inspector Bar fields and input the necessary values; then "Enter".

Kphool

It's a little more what John said.

Shift-Tab is headed in the right direction.

All my testing of that has been from 0,0 origin.

I'm looking to have and origin from a new point.

I'm slightly confused as to your requirements, but in 3d mode I use a lot of 2D to get the start point of an object, for example if I wanted a cross bar 186 mm from the end of a leg, I'd set the workplane and draw a 2D box that size to the end of the leg, and use its vertex to snap a 3D part to.

'use its vertex to snap a 3D part to'

Okay. I got it about doing it that way already.

I want to start the cursor at a point AWAY FROM ANY EXISTING OBJECT.

Any question about that?

See Relative Coordinates in the Wiki. It sounds like it may be of help.

John

Thank you.

That sounds familiar.

In plain words.

Coming up soon are 'spring mount's.

I need to 'hang them in space'.

THEN build TO them.

These 'boxes' are 1" square steel tubing to me.

How do I move the cursor FROM

1) Where the upright tube has been placed on top at all four corners?

OR

2) The ends of the tubes. Then I would be 'going though' the tubes already placed. So to speak.
