dwg troubles

Often when I open .dwg files from others, large sections of the drawing seemed to be grouped.  When I select one entity, half the drawing may be selected, as if it were a TurboCad group, but it won't explode into separate entities.  If I call the people who sent the file, they don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

It would be best if you could upload a file, but if you cannot, then select an example and invoke Selection Info to see what you've got and let us know.

One possibility; the selection may be an External Reference. What does the Selection Info palette say about the selected object?

Here is the file -- I can't find anything on the selection palette that makes any sense to me.

I don't have 21 deluxe, but opened the files in 21 pro and 2015 deluxe, both opened in Layout1 which is a paper space and hence a viewport, the drawing in model space appeared fine with lots of blocks, but is editable,  with regards the paper space, it exploded fine in GDI mode, but has problems if the Options menu - Native draw is set to RedSDK (viewports in RedSDK mode have had the occasional problem in the past).

I know I used different versions to yourself, just posting so you could check what native draw mode you are in, and certainly with v21 I'd advise GDI mode.

Andy, V21 Deluxe doesn't have RedSDK.

I agree with Andy, that the "Group" that you have selected is actually a "Viewport"; as described in the Selection Info" palette. To get "into it" so you have separate entities, use "Workspace / Model Space (Floating)". This is like opening a window into Model Space. Click outside of the Viewport to return to the regular view in Paperspace or re-select "Workspace / Model Space (Floating)". IMO, you would be better off going directly to Model Space and work in there.

Many thanks -- I'll see if I can figure this out.  I should change my profile from newbie to geezer.  I have been using TurboCad since it first converted to Windows, but every new version has stuff I can't keep up with.
