Winston's Soccer Ball Tutorial Video Series

After seeing a renewed interest in the creation of a soccer ball on the TurboCAD forum I decided to look up Winston Mitchell's old V7 Soccer Ball Tutorial. With my own renewed interest I decided to create a video series using it as the basis. I hope that you enjoy it. During the tutorial I discuss the option to tweak the component fillet radii. Attached is the original specified by Winston, and one with half the amount to see how that might look. Which is your favorite?

Thanks Don

I like your yersion best, but still the "skin" can be a bit thinner i Think, but what do i know, i have never played Soccer in all of my life :)

I also had special interest in that tread where it come from, especial Alvins solutions where he put in the link for how to calculate it.

Don,

Thanks for this tutorial on the soccer ball. When I started the thread I was using the soccer ball as an example of what I was wanting to do. The sides of the polygons and pentagons are to be flat not curved so that I can cut it out of flat sheet metal. I can draw what I need as 2d flat panels by knowing what size sphere I want but I think your tutorial is going to help me learn a lot about the use of 3d. Will the tutorial work with TC Pro Platinum v21.2 32 bit.

Thanks for you time and effort you put into this.

Hi Doug,

Yes, you should have no issues using V21. Even the materials are applied using LightWorks which is the V21 default render engine. Winston's tutorial was written in V7, so the steps and tools to do this have not changed much.

Thanks Torfinn.

I have no experience with soccer either. I like them both but I think Winston's original just "pops" with life. Much more artistic - as subjective as that can be.

Hi Don, just watched the video's, just great. I have a friend who is on a soccer team and is learning TC. Will let him know about the tutorials. P.S: I like the smaller radius on the edges. Also have the 2-Story house tutorial. The same friend is more into architecture than I am, so I made a DVD for the video's for him. He's not very computer savvy, even though he's a lot younger than me.
