DWF files

Just tried to open a DWF file sent by a client ... which is 13.9 MB big.
The file can be viewed with autodesk design review but neither with TC 23 nor with TC24

Why ... ?

Just hoped to find a good reason to buy the upgrade for TC24 ... (which luckily I did not)  :-\

What is the file size when zipped?  If less than 5 MB, then you can upload it here so we can experiment with it.

You could try a separate piece of software like - http://anydwg.com/dwf-to-dwg-home.html

and pay for another additional piece of software to replace a weakness in a software which i would have paied so much  !!!

Please, be a little serious.

It's still trying to load on my system, but I noticed that it steadily increase memory allocation until it maxed out (all 16 GB of my system RAM is allocated).  It started with maybe 5 GB (I'd had other files open, but I can't close them while this is still trying to load).

Must be an interesting design (or a recursive bug).

Okay... resolution, sort of.

The DWF kept trying to load, but I kept on using my Firefox browser to read the forum and opened a long thread (I selected 'All' of a 2 page thread).  Moments later, Firefox crashed and I got a Windows System notice to kill TurboCAD because it was taking up too much memory.

Everything got dumped and my system RAM usage dropped to a bit over 1 GB (which rarely happens under normal situations).

Hi Jeff,
look at the attached Jpg file ...
as you can see (and as told earlier) it works fine with Autodesk design review.
I hope that Imsi can find out what is and correct the problem in TC.
Best regards

That file is v 6.20 and TC 2016 and 2017 can handle v 4.2/ 5.5/ and 6.0

Maybe they can save down to an older version before send to you.
And have you tryd to print to PDF when you have it open in your viewer, and take in to TC by pdf underlay

Torfinn
Edit;
It was a 3D model, and then the pdf underlay dont help much :)

IMSI is part of a coalition that provides Import and Export filters for various programs such as AutoCAD.  When they update those filters, IMSI will incorporate them in the next release.

Hi Jeff,

Of course, you are right and I can understand this,

But they say their software provides the conversion, whereas it isn't the case at the time they say it and sell this software.

In the roughly 10 years I have used TurboCAD, the number of DWG, DXF or DWF files it has failed to import is fewer than 5.  Granted, I do not do this every month (let alone week), but it's a pretty good track record for a proprietary file format (now if they could only add SolidWorks).

Jeff,
I am working as a sales engineer for the steel industry and it is important for me to have a look in the drawings the clients send to us to better understand what is the matter.
I remember that the last time (with rev. 6) I got the same joke with the dwf files and I was really frustrated to having spent my money too fast and just because I have been to confident.

Regards.

Leo,

I understand your frustration, but TurboCAD is not AutoCAD, so there will be some lag time to get operational with the latest file versions.

Alternatively, I would suggest the free TrueVIEW app from AutoCAD to view DWF & DWG files.

Hi Jeff,

I am using Autodesk Design Review despite I would have preferred to use Turbocad which I know quite well.
Thanks for your cooperation as usual.
