Thought I would give Majo a rest....  ;)

Is this more what you are looking for TC2016 - RedSDK Bathroom Render - Gamma 2.2 - calibrated materials and Photographic TM render style. All materials gamma'd down to 0.4545 to increase light in difficult shadow areas.

Thanks Dean and Culdosek.
Some other Render Engines like Vray are set by default to Gamma 2.2. For one it reduces the need to add fill lighting and is more like the way we see light.
I use Serif photoplus to alter the gamma levels of textures down to 0.4545. When the tone mapping in rendering of 2.2 is appied the colours are then shown correctly. Nearly all photo editors have the tool to alter the gamma. I also reduce the whites where I can to 170RGB so that it helps with tone mapping and burn.

I will epack the drawing in a bit. You will notice that if you render it just with raytrace there is hardly any light.. for one reason is the RSE map would get its reflections removed. The Tone mapping and GI is doing a lot of the work. Only just started to use the render styles without the auto key as when i was testing in the render manager i could not get the colour calibration chart to show the correct colours. The auto key also kills the highlight popping..

Drawing epacked and I am uploading a video with a few tips and features about rendering, tone mapping and materials in TurboCAD 2016. I will send the links once they have finished uploading.

Increasing the render style quality (see attached) improved the colour accuracy so now nice round figures of 0.4 Exposure with 60% burn..  ;)

I've been rendering this image for a while and it is very time-consuming (30 minutes, and nowhere near complete).

Is the CPU and GPU usage what I should expect for an Advanced / RedSDK / GI Medium render?

How long does it take your system to render this image at approx. 1600x1200?

It will need the materials editing for 2017 Jeff!

The file is for TC2016, the materials have changed in RedSDK. I think Vlad and Majo have discussed the crossing over of glossiness values between versions as they are defaulting to 0.01 so they are all wrong and that's why it is taking to long to render...Everything is to shiny  :P .... the mirror has to much blurry glossiness noise at 0.01...

Yes i can believe that, as i was trying it in 2017 and it ended at 8714 sec :), changed from 7 to 2048 treads and then 10099 sec was the result :):)
The good thing was that i have a lot of time for doing other stuff that day and my laptop get cleaned for dust i guess, as the fan go like crazy.
BTW, it was not nice when finish :):)
So my suggest is to kill it, as the result will not be good in 2017

I booted 2016 and rendered.

Yes, it is much faster, but how do I change the lighting?

Is that the Advanced Render Style Jeff?

Should be "GI Medium Quality - For Average Renders".

I find sometimes I have to start the render then once the render starts curtaining down double click the "Raytrace Standard" then back to the GI one...to be sure RedSDK/TC is using the correct style.

Yes Jeff

Not suitable for the Standard render types.

The RSE (Render Scene Environment) reflections do not show up once the RSL (Render Scene Luminance) light level is above that. The Tone mapping does most of the work here.

Yeah... still need to read a good textbook explaining how to use Redway's implementation of the Vray renderer.

Any advice?

Jeff

Not sure what you mean about the implementation of the Vray renderer Jeff?

Redway's RedSDK is not using anything from Vray in there code (unless someone knows something I don't). What they seem to do is follow some of the Vray principles regarding light and materials in the physical and editing way. Probably for the familiarity for users that have used Vray and obviously the physics/maths involved.

RedSDK does not really care about how bright the lights are when using Photographic Tone Mapping as it will always try to pull the image up/back into our visible spectrum. I am just experimenting with light levels and I can confirm that this is true as is scaling up the lighting in the RSL and then the RSE skies. I can have a RSL sun level say at 0.01 then balance out the sky and the RSE too. then multiply the sun by 100 and all the other scales and intensities and get a nearly identical render.
To low though is can show up artifacts with the GI calculation. To bright can also cause so slight problems with burning in materials...

So it's all about balancing the light levels. This, especially for interiors as openings do affect the amount of light and the look we want if we are trying to only use sky light without any other luminances in lamps etc.

Edit - Added a bedroom render example - Sun at 1 is 100 brighter than the Sun at 0.01 but a very similar result with Photographic Tone Mapping.

The file is for TC2016, the materials have changed in RedSDK.

Really!?! Again!?!  It was bad when TCAD did away with LW, and users had to either change materials to RED or buy the LW plugin. Now those RED materials wont work in the 2017, so users again will have to edit materials to work in 2017. Is there any advantage to updating to 2017 if all prior work has to be tweaked?

They do work and I think development have already sorted the Glossiness factors being changed when saving back to 2016 *.tcw files and opening 2016 drawings in 2017.
