Just installed Deluxe 2017 and the 3D slice tool is missing from the pallet and modify menu, is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks.

Confirm

It looks like they removed it from the Commands page. They've been making changes to the tools lineup in Expert & Deluxe and it doesn't look good.

Enveloping part of one piece in another, for example a box aligned so that one side is your slice plane, you can intersect them and keep the originals, then subtract the envelope from the original part.   This has the same function as slice, and it can also be set up to function as slice by surface if your subtrahend is more sophisticated than an arbitrary box.

No it doesn't look good considering that they still list it as having it om there web page under Deluxe 2017 key features, this is a tool I use often.

Have you reported it through IMSI's support as a BUG, https://www.turbocad.com/content/turbocad-windows

I don't have 2017 deluxe yet so can't check, I would think it not being available would be more of an error rather than anything deliberate.

I reported as soon as saw it missing, hopefully you are correct about this being a bug with deluxe 2017.

Thank you Dave,
I was hoping that it was not removed from deluxe 2017.

Is there any particular date defined for that build ?
I'm asking because I often use that tool too.

One more thing maybe not related, it seems that there is a new tool, but it has no real name in menu - see attachment.
It shows MultiAdd_VB6

re: …MultiAdd_VB6…

MultiAdd_VB6 is a Platinum tool that only works with ACIS Solids, but someone may be looking to see if it can be made to also work with Deluxe's Surface objects.

It does not. I tried to use it,  but it gives me an error
See the screens below
On first screen we see that 3D toolbar is longer than is should be - there is a tool at the end but without icon
On second screen we see that there is a tool tip for that free space.
When I create some 3D objects and select them, the tools activates but using it ends with an error.

Just letting everyone know that the 3D Slice tool is back with latest build, did not appear until I deleted the user build profile which restored my interface to its defaults.

Multi-add VB6 exists because we used to have to pick operands one-by-one before fence selection for Booleans arrived in V19 0r V20.   If you wanted to do a multi-subtract or intersect, you had to select and do a multi-add first.  It's absolutely redundant with fence selection in Booleans.

I still find it useful and wouldn't want to give it up.

I thought there was a way of using a selection fence, but had forgotten how to do it with the 3D Add tool.
  • Activate the 3D Add tool.
  • Click on the first object to be added.
  • Then drag a selection window around the other objects to be added.
  • Hold the "Shift" to add/remove items from the selection.
  • Choose "Finish Selection" in the Local Menu to add everything together.
The above worked for me in Deluxe 2017.

I guess I can see a particular usage that depends on the order of selection, Henry.  I've used quite a few other apps over the years that have all had fence selection from the outset, and the lack of it in TC was a frustrating shortcoming, IMO.  I think Tom Snape wrote the original multi-add for VBA in V7 or so, O the nostalgia!  I can almost see it in sepia.
