2D Geometric Parameters

I have just found "2D Geometric Parameters"  in TC v20 Platinum. I could have done with finding this ages ago, the feature has been well hidden.

Having tested it and got the hang of it, I find there is one thing missing. The "Centre of Gravity", as expressed,  equates to the Centre of Effort of sails and the Centre of Lateral Resistance of an underwater body. I have to mark the various 2D Geometric Centres onto my drawing and find the distances from a predetermined line.

It would be excellent if there were a button to click which would place a cross at the CoG position on the drawing. I would imagine that this feature would be 'rocket science' as 2D Geometric Parameters does give a temporary graphical indication of CofG with the results.

Here's hoping that you can make life another snit easier.

Oh, and while I'm here could you make the verification image more readable. I can't make head nor tail of it most of the time and it take me ages to find an image that I can decipher correctly. I am sure it doesn't have to be that difficult and scrambled.

I agree that would be a helpful feature. A workaround is to place a 3D Point object or a small Sphere at the body's CG (using the reported CG location and the Inspector Bar Pos fields) and Group this new object with the body.

...You won't have to cope with those verification images after you've posted a certain number of messages in this Forum. Not sure of the exact number; I think it's 10 or 20.

OK, Brain cell failure. I have just found "Mark Main Axis", which is just what I was after.

However, my comment about the verification image on this forum still stands. And, the colour of the sky is currently GREY!

Henry, you just beat me to it.

I would possibly have more posts but I keep finding the answer after a day of searching almost every time. This time I found it just after posting!

Cheers

Notice that "Main Axis" isn't necessarily parallel to either of your current Workplane axes. Also be aware that  2D Geometric Parameters will probably give an incorrect result if the object isn't on the current WP. If you have moved the object, be sure to apply "Place on Workplane" before using the 2D GP tool.

Thank you Henry. The first try did do strange things but alt-shift-w seemed to fix it.

To double check I went 'old school'. Printed the offending article - carefully cut it out with scissors - concertina folded it along the x-axis - balance it on a pin - mark by piercing - measure.

It seems to work - so far, so good.

I don't see the tool in 64-bit installs.  Maybe 32-bit only.

From what I have read, I think that may well be the case

Weird.  Completely MIA in 20, 21, 2015 on this PC.  Not in commands, special tools or measurement, but mentioned in the manual.

I have it in v 20,21,2015 and 2016, i did not check further back, i am lazy :)
All in 64 bit, i stop to use 32 bit some time inside the v 19 cyclus
I have it inside "AddOns/ Special Tools/ Analyze"

But as we know, they like to move stuff around from version to version, and i have no idea of where it can be in other's cfg's. so i open a New from scratch drawing in v 2016 and did find it in the same place there also, using "tc_1280x1024pro" cfg. instead of my adjusted cfg file.
