changing text transparency?

is it possible to change the transparency of text?  I can't seem to figure out how, if so.

The method I used.
Create text using 'Flexible Mode'. In 'Text Properties' select Brush and the change the  Transparency values  % from 0 -100. The attached shows 95% . Next select a Pattern Color and click OK to close text properties. Select the text and change the Brush Pattern to Solid, left mouse to finish. See attached.

One way: Create the text using "Flexible" Mode, then explode it two times, thus reducing it to a bunch of Polylines. In the Properties>Pen dialog, set Pattern to "$INVISIBLE." In Properties>Brush, set Pattern to "Solid" and adjust the Transparency as required. (In the attached screenshot, Transparency is different for each letter, ranging from zero to 100%.)
