RedSDK - Texture Size Calculator
Read 7250 times

Hello Everyone
Here is a Texture size calculator I created for use in RedSDK during the beta testing for TC2015 as I was getting fed up using a desk/windows calculator to work out texture/image sizes for my materials. Thanks to Majo for the "Maths"  :)

Please find attached an Excel version and a .exe that is a more pro version (this I am using in the video). (some may have problems with the .exe as John R said his Norton anti-virus software deleted it). For both you will need to have Microsoft Excel on your machine.
Edit: The EXE is zipped up so just place the .exe on your desktop and click to start it up

Many of us cannot or do not want to use the mapping tool for everything. For Example, a kitchen set of doors as it would take a long time to map them and not always easy or necessary. Mapping all the mouldings would not be practical as it could take ages. Also sometimes we do not want to have the object turned into a Acis Solid/surface..... thats just for starters  :D

Another Advantage of a correctly sized texture is the Quick Pull tool used to make the oven more 3D - Pulled (Handle, Control knobs, Digital Display) no further work need in mapping etc. see image below:

Here is the video link to show me using the tool - http://youtu.be/P0Ss8m3f8kk

Your Welcome Nikki, Don & DonCW.  :)

Hopefully Imsi/Softdev will incorporate this into TC's Render Manager one day.... I have been asking for it for quite some time.  :P

I think I may need to update the exe when I get time using VB rather than VBA programming in Excel. Maybe I will get it to directly collect the image dimensions from an open dialog. One thing that I like, and did not realise, the usefulness of having the texture size separate from the image dimensions.

I will also make it so that the Image size can take decimel points as some of you use Imperial....Whether I can get it to take the Imperial dimensions directly I am not sure.
Decimal points can be used in the Excel version I have attached above anyway.  :)

Lets hope Softdev beat me to it eh  ;D

Hello Darrel,
sometimes it's needful that the image fits in height or in width and height on the textureobject disregarded on the images aspect ratio.
I have attached an excelfile with the calulations.
Maybe you can do a standalone program which is easier to handle and much more beautiful.
Best regards,
drajer

Okay.. Yes...

But now we have Mapping options in the material shaders so now kinda redundant for the majority of materials.
See attached. The Scales x, y, z: (leave U&V Factors at 1 for the scale system to work with drawing units)

Did a full scan of my computer using Windows Defender and got a notice that the Texture Size Calculator is infected with the Trojan:Win32/Bitrep.A virus.

Keep in mind that this was found in a backup file from 2015.  The filename is TurboCAD RedSDK Texture Size Calculator V2.exe.

Could be just defender seeing it as a false positive...

It is doing this a lot to other programs as this example - https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/m-seeing-simtools-2-2-exe-as-false-trojan-win32-bitrep-a.11530/

Only in this day and age do we have expressions like "false positive"
I guess I can say that it makes "sense"   ;D
