Hi,

I just installed the trial version of TC Deluxe and am trying to find my way here.  Quick question....I just imported some google sketchup files - how do I select and then delete a line in a drawing?

Easiest way IMO is to:

1. Select what you want to delete... by clicking on it with your left mouse button.. the entity(s) will highlight

2. Hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

You can also make a window around multiple entities at one time by clicking and dragging left to right. Anything withinthe window will be highlighted.

You can make a crossing window around the multiple object by clicking and dragging from right to left. Anything that the window crosses will be highlighted.

Well, that's the problem.  I have a drawing of a part and when I click on a line in that part, what appears to be a scaling frame with handles occurs around the entire object.  With Sketchup all I have to do is double click on that part again and then I can individually select lines and I can delete them, but when I click on an individual line the entire object is selected and I can't select that one line.  When I left click a dialog box comes up so I am lost........sorry for my ignorance LOL.

Two thing come to mind.

1. Are you in Paper Space or Model Space? Look at right hand bottom of the screen for two tabs.. one tab will say Model.. the other Paper 1. If Paper 1 is highlighted, click on the one that says Model. You should now be able to select the line.

2. If the Model tab is highlighted... then what you are selecting is either a block or group, and needs to be exploded. To explode... select the block/group and go to the Modify menu and click on explode. Now try to delete the line.

If "Layout" is active.. change it to "Model" and see if you can select and individual line.

If "Model" is active... then use the Explode tool.

If neither of the above works... post the file... that would help.

Well the layout page is blank.  I can only see the drawing in the model page.  Where can I find the explode tool?

All my versions of TC are customized... so just guessing here. Look under the Modify Pulldown menu... and see if it's there.

Post the file... that would help. Then I or someone else can see the file... and then walk you through it.

OK great that worked thanks, I am able to select an individual line - it becomes highlighted pink, and I can delete it by shift alt E keys and then hitting escape key.

One question though, every time I do this, I get a dialogue box that comes up that says "Selecting the object in 2d mode changes the drawings work plane".  Does this alter my entire drawing?

I am doing this under the model tab by the way, the layout tab is blank...

Another thing  when I do the shift alt E keys, some of the lines dis appear....

Thanks... that helped.

The drawing is a 3D surface model... actually... two 3D surfaces within the group. If you hold down your middle mouse button and drag across the screen... you will be able to see this. If you still want to explode it... hit the explode button twice... it will turn the surface object into polylines.

Ok thanks GregT

What does ""Selecting the object in 2d mode changes the drawings work plane" mean?

Reason why I ask, I have one drawing with several individual components or parts in it  Does this alter my entire drawing?

It means you are in 2D Selector mode, and selecting an object that is not on the current 2D Workplane. When you select the object... the workplane changes to that of the object you are selecting.

You might want to search the forum for Worplane, Selector mode... etc... or read some of the help file.
