Title: Lightworks tutorial?
Post by: groundhog on June 13, 2009, 03:20:42 AM
Anyone know of a TC/Lightworks specific tutorial? I am trying to go beyond my self-taught, default and very basic use of materials, luminance, etc. Right now I am having trouble importing *.lwa files (from the Lightworks Users web site).
I am using V16 Pro.   :P ???

Thanks!

I don't know of a TC/LightWorks specific tutorial; Don Cheke might have something close and then there's Henry's book on Materials at CADCourse.

What kind of problem are you experiencing with LWA files? In many cases you need to turn off the "Convert to TurboCAD format" parameter in the Import Wizard. From my experience, there's not much tweaking you can do with an unconverted material. It's basically use it as-is or dump it.

John,
I found out about unconverted LWAs just messing around.
I guess I'm not looking for anything specific, just something to help me get the basics without wasting a lot time through trial & error.
I have a few of Don Checke's tutorials that I haven't looked at for awhile. When I went through them I wasn't paying attention to the rendering parts. Forgot all about them! Time to revisit those.
Henry Hubich's looks like it might be helpful too.
Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

There's also the LightWorks Help file. The bullet list (found in the second part of the Description) helps describe what each parameter does.

A high-quality and clear description of LW 7.9 capabilities can be found here at:
formZ_v6.6_Documentation/formZ_Users_Manual.pdf.zip 86.7 Mb (ftp://ftp.formz.com/pub/formz/PDF_files/Documentation/English/formZ_v6.6_Documentation/formZ_Users_Manual.pdf.zip).

You might find other helpful LW's stuff at the formZ/Documention (http://www.formz.com/downloads/documentation.html) page.

Thanks for a useful pointer...  LOL - having to refer people to the documentation of a competing program is sort of like GM telling you to look at a Ford manual to learn how to use your new Chevy radio..

I know it's expensive to produce documentation, but having little or no documentation on how to use lightworks settings for rendering in TC has always been one of the sad shortcomings of TC. I hope Maurice et al can address this one of these days!

John,
Thanks again! A few days ago I didn't have any info and now I have so many resources don't know where to start! ;D
